'Sad' Truth: Celebrities Cannot Be Your 'True Friends,' but Fans Are the Truest Friends

I realized this when--since Neil deGrasse Tyson introduces himself (on "Star Talk") as 'our PERSONAL astrophysicist'--I looked-up the ancient roots of the word "personal." And it turns out that the word "person" is rooted in the Greek for 'mask worn by an actor in a drama'---i.e. 'person' is "an assumed character---a part you play." Dr. Tyson isn't "our" astrophysicist, he's more like 'a costar (us playing the part of "audience," him playing the astrophysicist-part).' As we continue to play the role, the role he plays continues to affect us. If we stop playing our part, he ceases to be our astrophysicist (but continue's to be "our old part's astrophysicist" ... the same way Batman stayed Robin's friend whether he was played by Burt Ward, Chris O'Donnell or Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Celebrities (LIKE Dr. Tyson) don't do things "according to your requests" like the 'true friend' in the picture does. Not even Jesus---who did "die for you," but did so whether you want Him to or not! I heard a celebrity talking about "the celebrity life" (of actors, at least). Actors don't act "to be liked or hated, nor to change how you feel about them"; they do it to 'create the artwork,' and use the audience reactions & -suggestions as one-of-many-many guides for perfecting it. But fans are truer friends---flocking/subscribing to whatever performance their star decides to participate-in, and continuing to do-so through the star's "flop"-period in faith that their next production will redeem them. (The only truer friends are the celebrities' supportive-families---most-often their spouses & children, and sometimes their parents, siblings, cousins, aunts & uncles.)

I see that you bring the Jesus character quite often in your posts. Are you an atheist or a believer in Jesus?

Yes, yes I am Both. I'm an atheist the same way Jesus was an atheist That's why I HATE IT when people go around praying in exactly the way Jesus told us NOT to---He told us to pray PRIVATELY! I also do not believe in 'the public god.' That god is 'the god of this world ... the prince of the power of the air'
Atheist Rabbi Jesus Christ. 62 likes. It seems to me that the primary weapon that atheists use against Christianity is 'the common Christian's misinterpretation of Christianity.'

@mythociate so, you do believe that there is a God and you also believe that you should pray privately to Him, right?

@Cristi_Ichim sort-of. I believe that God is something more-complicated than 'a superbeing who rules over all the universe'---God is more like 'The Force that Creates All Powerful Things.'

Words tend to change their meaning over time - and indeed according to where they are being used, as the corruption of English by Americanisms makes abundantly clear. I suppose that the closer modern word to the original meaning of "person" is "persona", which has survived from the Latin (not Greek) to mean what it meant then, namely a mask or assumed identity. The modern meaning of personal - as in "up close and personal" - is certainly a corruption.
