Have You Heard of This Bike Stunt?

There is a new phenonmena called "swerving" which is starting to become a popular fun pastime for young people. This trend is really catching on among some youngsters where bicycles are used in dare-devil stunts among motorists. They are intentionally biking straight into the path of oncoming vehicles in many cases and swerving at the very last split second. Often large groups of teens are doing this while some record the action, and the resulting traffic chaos is then put on social media. The police are very concerned about this illegal dangerous fad. Perhaps you've seen this on videos or on the news. What's your opinion of this new teenage craze? Hopefully, the youngsters in your town are not getting their kicks out this behavior. If you go to You Tube and type in swerving videos you will see what I mean. Due to some profanity in the background music played in the videos a link could not be displayed here. Oh that explains a lot. Some little kids (younger than teen) used to try it with me. They'd be riding their bikes straight toward me. I'd actually pull over and stop. They would then scream something at me (could make it out) and keep riding their bikes....

@dgobucks226 Not cool. If I were pedestrian I may be tempted to knock them off their bikes to prove a point. Some other, more angry people might be tempted to do the same in their cars. I hope the police can do something about it- stupid and dangerous trend

Yes, they usually ride in groups of 5 or more trying to veer off at the last minute. They are starting to do this on sidewalks to pedestrians.

@FayeHazel Whatever happened to just playing sports. Or even video games. At least innocent bystanders are not at risk? Risking one's life is not a smart way to make a you tube video.

I am glad that I have not seen this crazy trend on our roads. It seems that young people are trying to find an easy way to shorten their life.

@dgobucks226 Imagine a new driver in this situation, this can cause serious accidents. I would immediately call the police should I see idiots doing this, I would also take photos.

They could cause vehicles to panic to avoid them and lose control.

I haven't seen this happening here, but this is just crazy. I think it is to get popular on social media, anything to get views type thing. I hope a stop can be put to this.

That's not cool. I suppose the kids will blame the driver if one of the kids gets hurt.

That is shocking. It seems some parents are instilling absolutely no respect into their kids. Of course, once a teenager gets with his mates, there is no saying what they'll do

Courage in numbers and peer pressure are indeed motivators for seeking thrills no matter how dangerous!
