In a word, Alt-Weeklies. ... Okay, I bet you're gonna need 'a few more words.' Alt-weeklies are newspapers you can often get FOR FREE from restaurants & doctors' offices in your town. John Oliver (on LAST WEEK TONIGHT) explains what's going wrong with them---how they were once the best model for honest journalism. But they're becoming more-&-more about 'things that people like to read rather than hard-hitting matters, because there's no money if no one reads them anymore. Part of that money would be from 'subscription-fees,' probably; but the best way we can help them is by supporting 'the advertisers' (from whom I suspect most of the money comes). The best way to support the advertisers is to validate their purchase---go to the advertised restaurant or -concert or -theater or -show or -mass! As I probably can't go to any of them, I try some 'word-of-mouth 2.0' and put a lot of them (listed in one or two of my favorite alt-weeklies in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (i.e. mostly just events in the state of Oklahoma)) in https://www.facebook.com/groups/OklahomaVites/ this Facebook-group's "Events"-listings. Good contribution?
