No, He's Not Spoiled At All

Some people might say my schnauzer Ace is a spoiled dog. I don't know why anyone would think that. Just because he has his own seat on the couch, complete with a pillow to make it even comfier, doesn't mean he's spoiled. Just because he's the only dog my missus and I have had in our 30+ years of marriage who is allowed to sleep on the bed with us doesn't mean he's spoiled. Just because...Oh, all right, so he's spoiled. We rescued Ace when he was about 5 years old. We don't know for sure what kind of life he had before that but what evidence we do have shows it probably wasn't a very nice life. After all, someone left him at a kill shelter. Someone who better pray daily I never meet them. So, yes, he's spoiled. Ace knows he's spoiled and he loves it. Trust me. Ace knows he's got it good now and he appreciates every minute. Do you spoil your furry family member?

When I had my baby (in my profile picture), I would tell people she's not spoiled, I'm just well-trained. My allergist would say she couldn't sleep in bed with me, and I'd tell him I could get another allergist. If you're gonna have 'em, spoil 'em!

When I decided I was ready for another dog, I knew I wanted a rescue dog whose like I could make better and it was my intention all along to spoil him rotten. I think I've succeeded. He is, however, well trained and well behaved, except toward squirrels and some cats.

@DWDavis -- Freckles was part beagle, and I could tell her "NO!" when she saw a squirrel and she'd stop. Amazing, huh? (Of course, she was well-compensated for her "obedience," probably realizing that the treats would taste better than raw squirrel...and easier to get!)

@FourWalls Do not have pets if you are not going to spoil them.

I have one under the chair now, a cat, that did not like people here and would not come inside but sit at the door meowing. My dogs are not as spoiled as ace, but they do have a feeder so they can eat whenever they want. They do have to walk me daily sooooo.

My cat Joe was spoiled, too. His spot was the arm of my recliner if I was watching TV, on my desk if I was working at the computer (and on the keyboard if he wanted attention), and at my feet on the bed at night. Though it's been a couple of years since he crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I still find myself expecting to see him coming around the corner.

Ace is adorable. If he had a rough start in life he deserves it. My cat Sid was abused the first four years of his life when he came into my life and since then he has certainly been spoiled to make up for all that.

I'm sure Sid knows and appreciates how good his life is now. Rescues seem to understand they've been given a new lease on life.

I do think many rescue animals seem to know they're now in good hands and do appreciate their second chance at a good life. Lucky Ace. I'm sure he has amply repaid you in the pleasure he's brought to your household.

When he greets me every morning, when I get home from work, or when he just rests quietly while I work, he's repaying me a thousand times over.

Ace is my first schnauzer and I am so glad for him. We may have rescued him but in many ways, I think he rescued me, too.

Pets are meant to be spoilt. Preiti is a fine example of that too (lol)

He is not spoiled, you are trained. Glad you have him and he is safe now. I am still working with Duke on his anxiety at seeing me carrying even a cardboard box towards him. They must have hit him a lot.

Yes our pups are spoiled and I'm not embarrassed to admit it. The unconditional love they give makes spoiling easy. Ace is lucky you rescued him. Both our dogs are rescued too

There is something about a rescue dog that is hard to put a finger on but makes them different from a regularly adopted dog.

When we had our Labs and were showing them in Obedience they were never as spoiled as Ace is. Then again, he's only 1/4 their size and fits in my lap.

River, our puppy we rescued was found in the dumpster. If I ever find out who did it, they are not going to have a good day. Both of our dogs are spoiled.

@thislittlepennyearns You're right, I should have guessed. Maybe I was hoping she was named after a certain book you like.

@DWDavis I would of thought you would of guessed. Shes named after Alex Kingston's character on Doctor Who, River Song. Harley is named after the Batman character Harley Quinn.

Dixie Cup who attached herself to my broth-in-law James is quite spoilt even before we took her in from a homeless couple who his niece was hanging out with. She expects for the most part to be hand fed like royalty and will not anyone close to any of James's stuff (or what she think is James I can't even get the phone if it is ringing and the receiver i on the couch and he is not there as she will almost bite my hand off.
