If the service is good and the waiter is friendly, I will give a generous tip. If the service is merely adequate, I will leave the standard tip.

@DWDavis In Croatia it's more usuall round bill number on higher value, like 27 to 30 or 32 to 35.

In Croatia we often round bill. Example, if it's 18kn, we say 20kn.

How often you go into bar or restaurant?

yeah you're supposed to tip your server. I've had friends in the food business that go through a lot to make their customers happy with no reward and they're certainly not paid enough as it is. so yes I always give a tip.

Here it is expected to give 15% of the total bill. If they are really nice then I may give more.

@mrki444 We are used to that! If one can't afford to tip then it's better not to go out because the waiter or waitress expects to get tipped.

This is a very interesting and good question. So, to respond properly i'd have to say, what country are you in? Depending on the countries mannerisms and such either it is proper or not to tip your service provider. In America it is almost a requirement to tip %15-%18. I think it might be in Japan ( forgive me if I'm wrong, rather, correct me if i'm wrong) where it is disrespectful to tip at a restaurant. Thanks !*

I'm from Croatia (Europe). We don't have obligation to tip waiter or some standard amount., but it's very often practice.
