Here today but gone tomorrow

I picked Vince up from the airport today and now we are home again but only for one night. Tomorrow afternoon we leave for Narrogin to celebrate the centenary of the Catholic school where Vince received all his education. The school was started by a group of nuns. Vince’s late sister later joined that particular order at the age of 16. We will be staying with our nephew and it will be quite a reunion for Vince, most of his brothers and his remaining sister, not to mention some of the next generation who also started their education at the school. I attended the convent for piano lessons for many years and later taught piano there so I will have many memories of the place too although the original convent building has been sold. I enjoyed my time with my sister and I’ll write more about that another time. The photo is an unusual flower which was blooming outside the barn at my sister’s place. The open bloom is very large and above it you can see a bud about to open. Does anyone know what it is? When I have time I’ll try to find out what it is but in the meantime perhaps someone is familiar with it.

Because of the red veins I think it is a trumpet flower. Always Smiling has a link to an identical flower to the one I shared.

I have two red mandevillas but this would twice as large which doesn't mean it can't be a yellow one of course.

Glad Vince got home safely! That reunion sounds like it will be fun. I suspect the flower may be some kind of Gazania?

You may be right but it is more like a creeper and the flowers are huge. However they only last about a day then fall off.

@JamesHxstatic They are probably only about 8 inches across the bloom. I'm wondering if it is a variety of Angel's Trumpet.

Meeting old classmates has its own flavour. I have got them together many times. The flower name is large yellow trumpet flower

It would have been shortly before he went away. We see these particular brothers quite often. The eldest brother also came to the centenary so that was nice.

We did enjoy the centenary. And I found out that the flower is a trumpet flower. They have a bad reputation in some circles. All parts are poisonous but some believe they shouldn't be grown near a house or a window.

@JudyEv Oh. Interesting. The name makes sense now that you mention it. Is the advice not to grow near a house or window just a superstition thing? Or something to do with the poisonous nature of it? Pretty flower though either way.

It seems Vince has a busy schedule I think there are some unique animals and plants in Australia. I haven't seen a flower like the attached photo. Will it have the fruit?
