The California fires broke that record of the rich and famous never getting affected with disasters. The Malibu area was engulfed with fire and several celebrities had to leave their homes that were gutted.

It doesn't surprise me that they lost their homes, too. After all, they are people.

Fire does not look at who you are, it burns anything in its path.

Worse still is when people who donĀ“t have much money are forced to fleee from their hpmes. Their homes usually are not insured as celebs homes are.

@allknowing Right. One of the Kardashians hired a lot of personal firemen to save her home.

It is because we do not remember what happened in the past. It already happened in 1978 it was called the "Agoura-Malibu Firestorm". I remember because we went to Los Angeles a couple of years later and you could still the damages in Malibu.

It was almost 40 years ago but disasters strike the world in different parts of the world every year and several times in a year but we never hear of the rich and famous getting affected.

@allknowing When you live close to the affected celebrities you hear about it. I lived and worked near Brentwood and Malibu. The west part of Los Angeles County, especially in the canyons and hills often burn. There are also frequent fires in Santa Barbara -- another wealthy area.

@allknowing Forty years ago many houses of the rich and famous were destroyed. In more recent times it happened in Beverly Hills. Of course this big fire is destroying more houses than it happened in the past. The rich and famous have enough money to build another... most normal people have lost everything, included their dream to have a house where to retire.

I feel bad for all that have lost there. But at least most of them already have someplace else they can go.

The poor can adjust but not the rich in such circumstances.

They put their pants on just like everybody else. I'm sure they have loads of insurance. Just so they got out safely, that's what really matters.

They may have insurance but they too have to go through the ordeal that one has to face with such disasters.

@cindiowens The celebrities won't be left homeless. It's the people farther north in the town of Paradise who have lost everything and are homeless now in the cold of winter.

@allknowing I just hope the insurance companies don't fold leaving them all homeless. I know, it is an ordeal, but at least they have that. Hopefully.

I was surprised to hear Gerard Butler, Miley Cyrus, and others lost their homes. It always seems to miss famous people, yes. At least you know they have good insurance.

@bagarad It was only in the context of the rich not getting this experience as often as the poor do in disasters that I wrote this post. I am fully aware of what anyone goes through in such circumstances.

@allknowing I'm guessing many of those people have more than one house and lots of savings. Sure they lost things, but they can afford to buy more. I feel much sorrier for the ordinary people who lost everything and live paycheck to paycheck who can't afford to replace their loss until the insurance -- if they have any -- kicks in.

The celebrities were certainly affected, but they certainly weren't the only ones. A whole town (Paradise) burned down in Northern California and most people there don't have the money to find decent living quarters as they wait to rebuild. They are camping out in the cold. Even our tenants who live in the house we lived in before we moved here had to evacuate, since our old neighborhood was under a mandatory evacuation order. Fortunately the fire didn't get all the way there. It was a rough week for our tenants, since the father of the family is a sheriff's deputy and he had to go to the scene of the shooting in Thousand Oaks at the same time the fires were going on and his family was evacuated. The shooter, it turns out, lived within walking distance of where we used to live, but he didn't live there when we did.

You have made me believe that I have no concern for those other than the rich How wrong you are. I have no intention to convince you about it because this discussion was only to highlight how only this time I see the rich getting affected. Never assume.
