Recently we had a weekend gathering (actually 4 weekdays) of female cousins on my mother's side. Being the youngest I didn't grow up with these cousins and I didn't know my grandfather, so at first I felt a little bit out of it as conversation revolved around events I knew nothing about. But it was a great few days of bonding with my sisters and cousins, lots of laughs, games, and food. There was drinking but no one got drunk and everyone was in bed by 11:00 (that's what happens when you're with a group of people who are all over 60 ).
My sister brought some old photo albums and told my cousins to take what they wanted as there were pictures of their parents' and grandparents in there. I took some of my Dad, my Dad with my Mom, and with his parents. When I looked at the above picture of my father at age 18 I felt mesmerized. The face seemed so familiar. When other people look at the picture they say I look just like him. It's weird. The familiarity to me was spooky and I guess it's because I was looking at my own face.
It's funny because me and my sisters find ourselves becoming more and more like our mother, yet here I see my face in my father's face. It brings me comfort. He has been gone almost 13 years now. Seeing these pictures I miss him more than ever.
Family is forever.

I can see where you got your smile.
My first reaction at looking at the photo was that he had movie star good looks.

I watch my children change. One day they seem to spresemble me...another day they resemble my husband. I guess the genetics will show....they are obviously a good blend of both of us.
