Sick With the Flu

I knew I had been pushing myself hard over the past week or so, especially with the physical exertion that came with participating in the World Cup of Paintball tournament. Add in a big renovation project at work, and some crazy weather fluctuations on top of that, and it created perfect conditions to wear out my body. And wear me out it did. I am now sick as a dog, fighting off what feels like the flu. I actually hope it's not the flu, since I did get a flu shot about a month ago. But either way, I feel absolutely miserable. Anyway, I need to rest my body, so I am taking a sick day at work today and tomorrow and staying home to rest. Which means I will have plenty of time to catch up on all my notifications here on myLot. I hope all of the rest of you are in good spirits and in good health right now, as it's never fun being sick. I hope that taking two days off from work, plus resting over the weekend, will leave me feeling better by next week.

@amadeo No, I haven't taken anything for the fever, just some Thera-Flu to help with the aches and congestion. I read somewhere that your body can actually heal faster when you let the fever run its course, as it's our body's way of killing off the viruses that are making us sick. So although it sucks to feel the way I do, I'm letting my body do its thing.

I'm trying my best...with the rest and the fluids. Now if I can just get this fever to break.

Definitely resting and taking it easy. I'm running a fever right now, so I'm currently burning up. Which means probably in about an hour I will be shivering and unable to get warm. One of the things I hate most about getting sick is alternating between fever and chills.

I am so sorry, I hope you will get well soon. Not sure that the flu vaccine works, last year it did not work.

@moffittjc Try to rest and take care of yourself, it's still the best cure.

Which flu vaccine is the correct strain is just a guessing game, since they have to manufacture it in advance before flu season actually hits. I don't think I have the real flu, but I am currently experiencing some very flu-like symptoms. We'll see how I feel in a day or two. Hopefully, it won't get worse.

I'm so sorry you caught the flu! We all get our flu shots and haven't had the flu since our first shot. No time to be sick. Feel better soon.

After a rough start this morning, I am feeling much better this evening. If I can have a good nights sleep, then I should be just about all better by tomorrow. Yay, just in time for Thanksgiving!

@DianneN I hate getting sick, because when I do I crash and burn hard. I barely ever get sick, so when I do I'm usually a hot mess.

@moffittjc I sure hope so. The flu used to keep me bed ridden for a good week to 10 days.

@UncleJoe I happen to love V-8 juice. I have to go to the store in a little while to get some more medicine, so while I'm there I'll grab some V-8 juice. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Courtlynn I'm finally feeling better and getting my strength back slowly, but still have a lot of congestion in my head. A lot of it probably has to do with our weather, who can't make up its mind if it wants to be hot or cold, sunny or rainy. But other than that, I'm doing okay. I'm sending positive thoughts your way in the hopes that things continue to get better for you.

@LovingMyBabies I was starting to feel better yesterday, but overnight I seem to have taken a turn for the worst. Everything that was up in my head has now worked its way down into my chest. I will be stocking up on lots of Thera-Flu and Mucinex! haha

@moffittjc Just lots of fluids. That is usually the best thing. Maybe tea with some honey and cinnamon in it too. They are both good for fighting a cold off.

@wolfgirl569 I've got the fluids, tea, honey and cinnamon thing downbeat. I didn't know cinnamon was good for fighting off colds, but I put cinnamon on just about everything I eat and drink! haha

Thanks Eva, I hope I can knock this thing out quickly. Fortunately, I didn't make any plans for the weekend, so I have several days I can lay around and rest.

Thanks, I hope so too! They say a cold or flu can take 7-10 days to run its course in your body. I'm hoping I can knock it out in four so I can not miss any more work. I've got a big renovation project going on at work that I kinda need to be there for. And plus I want to be healthy again by Thanksgiving next week.

Thanks James! I'm slowing getting there. I usually crash and burn hard when I get sick, so what should be a quick cold to most is like a 10-day ordeal for me. Thankfully, I don't get sick very often.

@moffittjc The flu seems to be a ten day ordeal for most of us, if we are unfortunate enough to get it.

Sorry to hear that Jeff- I didn't get the flu shot so far and now feel even more validated not to- however I'll wait and see. Remember vitamin C, and yes, chicken soup--it really works! Hope you feel better real soon.

@MarymargII I like the lying on the couch part! I think that should be a prescription that doctors write their patients. "Sorry boss, can't come to work today. I have to lie on the couch. Doctor's orders!"

I have been loading up on both vitamin C and chicken soup. I started feeling better yesterday, but had a rough night last night that left me feeling wiped and drained today. I plan on laying on the couch all day today and hope I can improve once again.

@moffittjc You know they should add that to the regular list of cold cures: lots of Vitamin C, Oregano oil, chicken soup and lying on the couch. haha! That helps too!
