Watching the "old" T.V. programs

I got up this morning feeling awful. I had gotten up at 6 a.m. to use the "litter box" (toilet) and decided it was just too early to get up so I went back to bed. Bad mistake! I had nightmares until 8:45. I woke up mid nightmare and decided it was time to get up. I turned on the computer and started watching the oldies on the computer until Bill got up. Then I turned on the television and watched Ozzie and Harriet. It was hysterical! I've watched other episodes of the program and gotten a big kick out of them and also felt much better after watching them. I'm watching an old episode of Dragnet right now. I was about to turn it over but it got me enthralled with the story line. That's what I miss about some of the newer story lines in programs, they don't hold your attention for very long. The one great thing is that it lifted me out of my funk and I am really starting to feel much better. Of course they are programs that I grew up on, so I am comfortable with them, but still they are so much fun to watch. The story line for Dragnet is the one where a man comes into the police station and tells Friday and his partner that he found some items that he is sure is stolen property. He shows the cops the items and gives them his name and eventually his address that they are to meet him at. That's all the information he would give them. They go to the owner's address and she is a total kook! She rattles on like an empty tea pot and doesn't give them much information. That's about as far as I've gotten in the story....but it's fascinating. Have you started watching the channels that play the old television programs? If you do which ones do you like? I'm hooked on The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, and I can add Ozzie and Harriet and Dragnet on occasion. Bill loves Barney Miller but it comes on late at night and we go to bed around 10 or 11 p.m. so I record them for him. Oh I also watch MASH. When we got the channel that Disney showed it on we also loved Phineas and Ferb. We haven't watched it since the house burned down (I had the full array of channels on the dish which included the Disney channel that played the Phineas and Ferb program). OH, Bill also likes Gunsmoke. I can't handle it because of the amount of killing on the program. Even when I was younger I couldn't handle programs that had a lot of killing on it, I would end up having screaming nightmares if I saw that kind of program. If the folks turned on programs like Gunsmoke or Combat or other programs with a lot of killing on it I would leave the room and go to my bedroom and play with my toys. Now I turn the T.V. to a happier channel. I realized that one of my horrible nightmares this morning was caused by one of the story lines on one of the episodes of Gunsmoke from last night. I should have left the room and sat in the bedroom and read or gone in the storage room and sorted stuff or something like that. It would have saved me from waking up in tears and feeling awful. Do you watch any of the old programs? If you do which ones? What kind of programs do you watch in the newer ones?

I don't watch horror or sci-fi or anything with too much violence. I like a quiet life.

I watch Star Trek the original series. They didn't do a lot of killing, they tried hard to make friends of the different alien species they came in contact with. I also watched Star Trek The Next Generation but wasn't as big a fan of it. The characters weren't as fun as the original series. But as for horror or sci-fi that isn't in my list of things to watch. I don't see the fun in having the daylights scared out of you, there is enough violence just in the news, and I don't watch that at all. I also like a quiet life.

I can't watch Horrors are Ghost movies as they will give me horrible nightmares. I, also, don't like violence in movies. I prefer romance and comedy. I loved watching Partridge Family, Brady Bunch and such programs.

I'm the same way with horror and ghost movies. Most westerns do the same thing if they have a lot of killing in them...I have some of the worst nightmares from those programs and movies. Give me a good comedy any day...I used to love the Partridge Family, and some the Brady Bunch was really good too. They've brought back a lot of those programs on some of the dish channels for those of us who are tired of the junk that is being put on the national broadcasting channels like NBC and CBS. I haven't tuned into any of those channels in ages. OH, one of my favorites is a Brit-com called "Are you being served?" It was a riot!!! I would love to get it back on. My Mom and I would laugh our way through the program every time it was on!

I am too antsy to watch much television and hubby has it on too loud. He finds lots of old westerns to watch. At my brother and sister in law's home they have netflix. They get old Agatha Christie stories, like Murder on the Orient Express, and then also they get a series (British) called Midsomer Murders that I love, as it is about the mystery more than about murder.

Watching tv is a good way to break your thought process as you already know. I like the comedies like King of Queens. I enjoy the medical shows like New Amsterdam and The Good Doctor and The Resident.

@BearArtistLady It is hard to find any show without violence these days. Gunshots are the worst for me and they are everywhere.

@CarolDM I look for the old television shows like Ozzie and Harriet, Andy Griffith, Dragnet, Lone Ranger, and even Roy Rogers. I can't take the gunshots, and the blood and guts that they show now. I also can't take the violence where people or animals get hurt or beaten. I can't handle Gunsmoke and try like crazy NOT to pay any attention to it because of the gunshots and the killings. I think it comes from the abuse that came from the hands of my brother. He would beat me daily and would hit me with all sorts of things from around the house. I also have a gentle soul and won't hurt anyone for anything, and refuse to harm a living soul for anything.

@BearArtistLady Andy Griffith was always a favorite to watch. I know what you mean about gunshots. So very sorry for your abuse. Nobody should have to endure that treatment.
