CBGSs is the now legendary New York club where rock rebelled against the special effects progressive rock arena scene. The kings of CBGBs were the Ramones, the godfathers of American punk. They along with CBGBs pals Blondie and the Talking Heads helped ignite the mid-70s rock revolution. The Ramones stripped rock to its basics: simple chords in blistering two minute songs. They never sold a zillion records or were hit makers or a household name but the Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The importance of the Ramones reached across the water to the UK influencing no less than the mighty Clash. Written by Joey, here is my favorite Ramones song “Beat on the Brat” performed on the CBGBs stage October 6, 1977.
