"It's A Dog's Day" as our music trivia quiz continues with my favorite "Man's Best Friend" tunes. Do you remember the song about a dog named "Boo." I do, (pardon the rhyme) performed by the artist Lobo, who had success in the early 1970s scoring several U.S. Top 10 hits. Lobo seemed to really enjoy traveling with his dog pal in this song. Enjoy the music of Lobo as you figure out today's clues.... Can you name these songs and artists? Here are your clues: 1. This song was originally recorded in a blues style by Big Mama Thornton in 1953. This artist's dog version sounded more like a Texas's group he heard who released the song on the Teen label in 1955. The lyrics tell of a man dissapointed with his lover who was supposed to be so high-classed but isn't. Apparently, she never caught a rabbit either. He is the only artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Hall of Fame, and the Gospel Hall of Fame. Maybe that's one reason he has been referred to as the "King." This tune was a # 1 hit for this Memphis icon, one of 17 according to Billboard. 2. The original title of this tune was "You Can Talk To Me. The song was recorded during a promotional video for another song. One of the band members barked at the end of the tune and they kept in the barking and changed the title from frog to dog. This was the last song the four group membes recorded before leaving for a retreat in India to study meditation with the Maharishi. The band wanted to use this track in a animated movie they were making, but it did not make the cut. Toad the Wet Sprocket and Rolf Harris are among the acts to cover this song. Brian Setzer started performing it with his orchestra in 2018, having his female backing singers handle the lead vocals. Bonus: This tune is about a girl who wants to buy her sweetheart a dog and wants to know the price. She has to take a trip to California and she figures if he has a dog, he won't be lonesome. Also, the dog can protect him from robbers and scare them with a bark. So, if the price is right, she wants the dog with the waggly tail. The song is considered a novelty tune, and has a dog barking in the background. It reached #1 on both the Cashbox and Billboard charts. The artist recorded the original version of this song in 1952. She was one of the top selling female artists of the 50's. Her signature song was "Tennessee Waltz." Ok music lovers.....time for those answers! If your stuck and need additional help just let me know in your response. You can "Count On Me" to provide more clues. As always, thanks for reading and responding to my music post !!!! 1. Actually, Johnny Cash is also in the Country, Rock, and Gospel halls of fame, too. Fitting since he and that Tupelo truck driver were both on Sun Records "back then." Oh, and here's another piece of trivia for you: Homer and Jethro recorded a perfectly straight rendition of that song two years before EAP did! 2. Hey, wonder if the bulldog's name was Martha? Paul had a way for naming songs for dogs, didn't he....."Jet" from Band on the Run was named for a puppy. 3. From the Homer & Jethro not-so-straight version (to the eternal chagrin of Clara Fowler): "How much is that hound dog in the winder with the basketball nose on its face? You know what a basketball nose is? It dribbles all over the place!" Oh, and did you know that Stonewall Jackson covered "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo"? Since I listened to nothing but country music growing up, that's where I first heard it!

Thanks for the correction on Johnny in # 1. An award well deserved! Yes, could it be the famous pooch Martha, from the White Album's track "Martha My Dear?" Well, you seemed to enjoy this quiz "Country Boy," you got to liven up this post with some great country music trivia, lol. Appreciate those comments!
