Have you ever bought Travel Insurance?

I am new to this completely. I usually run the risk of being out money on vacations by not buying any sort of travel insurance. Me and my friend have been idly planning a resort beach vacation in February, but her dad has become ill with pancreatic cancer. So...not to be morbid but in this scenario I think it is a good idea. Just in case. We will likely be booking through CheapCarribbean which offers a third party insurance plan but I heard you can also buy insurance after you book from insurance companies. This is all new to me. Have you ever bought travel insurance?

It was mandatory for package tours.

Was it? Was this a big tour trip internationally? I bet you would want it anyway in that case. Do you remember the tour company you were with?

I only used it when travelling to Canada in 2003 to cover the eventuality of problems on the flight - as it went well I did realize I could have got away without being insured

But that is also part of insurance; essentially do you want to risk things going awry.

That is good. Not good that she got sick but that you thought to buy it for this trip.

Yes, you can buy the insurance from an insurance company I made several time. I do not want to be mean, but pancreatic cancer is nothing good, buy the insurance.

@maezee We had two friends who passed away due to pancreatic cancer. Once it was diagnosed they did not last long. It's really sad.

For the few international trips I always take travel insurance. For domestic vacations and flights it is cheap but barely covers anything.

I go on a lot of trips overseas and I always buy travel insurance to stay on the safe side of life. When I went around the world I bought a long term backpackers insurance. It let me travel for 12 months. I was even allowed a limited amount of time in the USA where medical costs are high. I bought single trip for most other trips. I have bought a few multi trip for my trips. In 2012 I had very expensive medical insurance for my disabled son. I needed worldwide for 28 days so it was pricey. I get travel insurance from a travel insurance company that cover my son's hydrocephalus. If on a trip he has a shunt infection he would die within 2 hours. If this happened I would pay an excess so he could have urgent medical care. When I get free travel vouchers then I get free travel insurance. I must pay a fee to take it between 14 and 21 nights. They have said okay for a 22 day trip.

Oh my goodness. Absolutely in that case. I can understand. I am looking for coverage that would allow me to cancel if need be due to my friends dads preexisting condition if anything worsens dramatically.

In most cases, my travel insurances will always be covered by the tour group and for company official trips, my company will take care of it. If I am going on a free and easy, I will ask my insurance agent to do a single trip coverage.

Since I do not travel a lot, i prefer not to buy it. I take a flight at most 3 times a year
