Mastering the Chopsticks

These two slender sticks of wood look so elegant . It looks quite easy when I see other diners using it at some Chinese restaurants. Though I enjoy Chinese food ,I have not been able to use the chopsticks. I gave up after a couple of tries and now pick up the fork that is offered alternatively. For Indian meals I use my hand. What about you? Photo:My friend using chopsticks

@responsiveme Unless you have regular practice it will take time. I do not suppose you eat noodles every day

You're most likely sitting in a restaurant with a set of chopsticks in your hand saying "what do i do with these?" Support if you like what we are doing. Som...

@responsiveme You need to practice and to try to grab something that it's not food, when you are not sitting at a restaurant table.

It's not easy if we are not used to eating using chopsticks, and what you say is true It seems very easy to see people eating using chopsticks, but actually it's very difficult Even I myself find it difficult if I eat using supit

I love to eat with my hand. I used to eat this way since childhood. However, here on eating outside I prefer to use a spoon.

@arthurchappell he is certainly better at playing Chopsticks than eating with them. But why is that music called Chopsticks? It's better to have the food when warm

I've used them a few times, but not since I was in high school, a very long time ago. I prefer a fork.

my big brother taught me how to use these sticks. i still find it hard to pick up food. my son however learned from how i hold the sticks. now, he uses the sticks more expertly than me.

I can use chopsticks, although I am certain I am not graceful with them. Generally, after eating with them for awhile I will go to a fork..not sure I ever ate a whole meal with them.

I've never used chopsticks either. I'm not sure that I've eaten any Indian food that could be managed by hand, but I've eaten certain American foods by hand what is normally eaten that way anyhow.

The very first time I ate Chinese food was at a family-run restaurant when I was a student. I went with my boyfriend, and neither of us had used chopsticks before. The owner gave us tuition and encouraged us to practice picking up peas! Since then I always use them at restaurants, and for a lomg time I also used them at home because I had a Chinese friend and he regularly cooked for us, and we for him. Nowadays I don't tend to use them as often at home because my family are not so keen and they generally lay the table with knives and forks!
