This is a very small place to stay. Have you ever banged your head on a low ceiling? Have you had nowhere to store your possessions? I love to travel and poor accommodation is annoying.

For a family, oh my, that would indeed be very small! If it were just me by myself, I think I could make it work. But with kids - it might be doable, as long as they are willing . One time Hubby and I (before kids), we slept in the car in the front seats instead of getting a hotel room just to save money. I am small and can probably sleep on a rock - so I was fine. But Hubby is bigger and a picky sleeper - he said he would NEVER do that again .

I can imagine your husband would never sleep in the car again. I am glad that you are a sound sleeper in such a place. Yes, if I was one person that boat would have been okay. It wasn't big enough for a family of 3 people. Next time I will be more careful booking accommodation.

I wished to visit Portugal with my two children. I hoped to see somewhere on the mainland and the island of Madeira. I am a low budget traveller and I saw foreign language reviews for that accommodation. It was in late October to early November 2018.

@maximax8 Portugal is a good travel destination. My husband and I were at the south coast once and in Lisbon three times. I don't understand if you're planning to go there or if you've already been there.

@MALUSE I love to travel to different countries. I went to Portugal in late October to early November.2018 We went there because it was a school holiday. My son had two weeks and my daughter only had one week. I went to Lisbon with my son when he was a baby. It is so beautiful and Porto is just as charming.

Was that in sunny Florida? With 5 children in a camper van must have been fun if it was near a tropical beach. Were there enough bunks for all 7 of you?

@maximax8 yes but it was in Ohio in summer. i hate Florida. it is either too hot and sunny or rainy and foggy so too dark all day. never a happy medium to me

@bunnybon7 Oh, yes it was in Ohio. That would have been a more pleasant temperature than Florida.

We have lived in a car, a motel room and a tent before with 5 children. It was small spaces but we made it work with no choice.

I am delighted with 5 children you have been able to live in a car, tent and motel room. Are you in a better place now? I hope so.

I do remember taking a boat ride from Colon Panama to New Orleans aboard the Steamship Cristobal which was a cargo ship that is no longer in service as it was sold for scrap in Brownsville Texas a long time ago where sleeping in the top bunk was no fun getting my head banged on the roof.

I love the sound of the cargo boat from Colon in Panama to New Orleans. Yes, sleeping in a bunk bumping your head on the roof must have been awful. I am happy that you have that memory. It is a pity the Steamship Christabel was sold for scrap in Brownsville. I would love to visit Panama in the future along with some other countries in Central America.

Yes, I totally agree that a boat is cheaper than a guest house or a hotel. A marina is an attractive location with waterside views and it looked stunning in the dark.
