Wisdom Tooth removal

As I mentioned in one of my posts yesterday I had my wisdom tooth out yesterday. I was really nervous about it and scared, I knew it would be quite an aggressive procedure and had heard lots of horror stories about removals in the past. When I got there I had to have an x-ray which was done with a machine that went all the way around my head like something out of a sci-fi film. After that I was asked to go and wait in the waiting room. After about 15 minutes they called me in, the dentist asked me loads of questions about my medical history and asked if I was happy to have the tooth removed there and then. I said yes - as I had been asking to have it removed for 11 years!! The dentist told me about 5 times that I would be surprised by how much pressure would be needed to take the tooth out. He told me that if I stayed really still it would only take seconds but if I moved or flinched away it could take hours. I therefore griped my hands together over my stomach as I lied down and tried to stay as still as possible. It was indeed very violent and it felt horrible and brutal but I help still so it only took around 30 seconds - 1 minute and then it was done. I was so relieved when it was finished and I thought I had got away with not much pain, it didn't hurt for hours but then last night it started getting quite bad. Today it has been horrible all day, I am taking pain killers but it's not working. at all. Well I guess it must be working a bit but it doesn't feel like it at the moment. The whole side of my face is throbbing :(

@aureliah Do dentists receive you? I have many problems with my teeth and dentists don't receive me because it's a lot of work.

Yeah I know, apparently the second and third days are the worst so hopefully only one more bad day and it should start improving :)

That sounds like a lot of work, they are such pesky things, the reason I needed mine out was because it had taken over 10 years to fully come through and had developed a cavity in that time where I couldn't brush it properly they are such a pain.

I think I might have one more day of pain and then it should start improving. I know it could have been a lot worse so I am not complaining. Some people are in agony afterwards x

Poor dear! Mine had to be cut out so I was put to sleep for it all, I didn’t feel any of it. It also barely hurt at all afterwards and that was having all 4 out at once! Keep ice on that cheek and sleep with your head elevated- even to the point of sitting up.

I was so worried about them having to cut but luckily it actually came out quite easily compared to some. I wanted to be put to sleep but there was no medical reason to do it so they wouldn't, I am glad they didn't now though as I would have had to wait longer. I am glad yours went smoothly though x

Fortunately, until now I have no problems with my teeth, because I always take good care of my teeth regularly

Mine wasn't due to poor hygiene there wasn't enough room for the wisdom tooth to come through fully so it was partially through for years, it was always going to need to come out. I am glad you haven't had this experience x

There were many complaints of the pain when having to get a wisdom tooth pulled. I still have mine but there are so many who've had teeth pulled.

@Shellyjane Wow, you wanted it done 11 years ago. I wonder why they did not do it then. I had mine out a long time ago. I am so sorry you are in so much pain. Do the pain pills help you?

Normal teeth aren't so bad at all, it is just the wisdom teeth that are difficult to get out. Don't stress about it, it is still worth it if the tooth is causing you problems. You will be fine :)
