Retirement plans

You know, I'm still young (37), but it's never too early to think about a retirement plan. Problem is, there is a political chaos in our country right now and the future is uncertain. I want to work for 5 more years (at least), then maybe retire and also get another job, one that will allow me to have some time for me and my family. I know it's too soon, but after 10 years with almost no free weekends and countless times when I worked 15 hours a day or more... I'm a little frustrated. I barely see my wife and my son. Some tips about what I should focus on? I mean, for the next 5 years. I don't know if I'll be able to retire then, mainly because it would be a big cut in my income, but there are things more important than money.

It is sad to hear about what you encounter. I though your country was peaceful all the time. 15 hours of work is consider overwork. It is bad to your health. Can I know what is your job about? Is is a requirement to work for long hours or you want to earn some extra overtime? If possible, you may try to apply for a job with better offer. I believe you can get a better one with numerous working experience and efforts you have spent on your job. Good luck and wish to get your update.

Thank you for your concern, Alvin . Fortunately, I had a better period lately, even got a raise in my salary. Still, there is a lot of stress at work and I had enough. I just want to resist at least 5 more years, but who knows... I work for the military (office job), it was nice for a while, but things got gradually bad. And trust me, we may have peace, but with leaders like ours, who needs enemies? They actually destroy the country, more than 3,5 millions left the country because of them (over 10 years). I think this says it all .

@Acefun pretty much . I see you did your homework, very nice of you. Yes, corruption is a plague here and our current leaders want to preserve this instead of fighting it. I might do better than many, but I'm not happy, not at all .

@Kasjnak I am glad that you have better pay in this month end. Congratulation. I understand that your country is having protest since 2017 for oppose government manipulate criminal law, corruption, want the present government to dissolve and having new election. Your country has high poverty rate. However, since you are working in with the government, I believe that you are better off than others people. Does my understanding correct?

Sounds like a good plan. Here, the retirement system has huge problems already and if I retire too late, I'll get almost... nothing . If I retire early, I'll get a small amount, but still a lot more than if I do it later. Strange, but it's a very possible future.

@Kasjnak really? that is not good. my sister went to the city again this morning and inquired about retirement in a social security service of our country, and it is affirmed that 60 years old is the retirement age now. i should still work 3 semesters before i retire so i can add money in my bank

It's good to start planning early. May be you should invest some of your earnings where you would get good returns.

Yup. The thing is, as long as you cut some expenses and improve your incomes, things will get better. Last week I reduced one of my debts from 320$/month to 250$/month. Next month I hope to reduce another debt with 10$/month. Small amounts, but this will make a difference in the long run .

Thank you! I think everyone should at least think about this, if not act immediately. I have some ideas, but I need a little time to see them clearly .

Why don't you cut the number of hours you working per day?? 15 hours a day is way too much!

Having recently retired myself the best advice I can offer you is to put as much money as you can into a pension scheme or a savings scheme. This will give you the option of having enough money to retire earlier than you would otherwise have to.

We worked at our careers and then took early retirement. My husband did extra work after he retired. Our son was a NYC attorney in a top firm, which sucked the life out of him. He decided family life was more important and found another firm. He took a huge pay cut, but the hours are much better. He still invests in his retirement fund.

Huge cut or not, I'm willing to do that asap! Spending more time with the ones I love is the most important thing for me, easy as that .

It's really hard to get ahead sometimes and an unstable economy/government doesn't make it any easier.

Things were good until 2 years ago. Since then, everything went downhill at work and in our country. Anyway, I'll fight for my future. And I'll win .

No investments so far. I'm planning to do that next year, because it's important to have many sources of income . If I rely only on my job... that's not a good idea.

Indeed. Lately I have a normal program, 8 hours a day, maybe 9. And it shows, things are better .
