well, as some of you know, her ear was hurting a bit the other day. So, I took her to the clinic, and we were given some medicine for her ear. This morning, she was still complaining that her ear was still hurting. So, I took her to the clinic. Again. This time, the doctor looked and saw something in her ear. she saw some wax and something white, like swab or something. Now she has some ear drops. Not too sure what happened, but apparently she can't quite catch a break. So, we'll use the drops for 5 days and then go back to the clinic. Not quite how I thought the holidays would go, but such is life. At least her ear is doing better. she was even saying can now hear in both ears. So, it's good news.

they recommend not to use a swap to clean out your ears

And yet I do it all the time. Maybe they assume some of us are "klutzes" and will poke holes in our ear drums.

That is odd I wonder why if there was something in her ear they didn't take it out?

The doctor did try, but my daughter was a little nervous. So, she decided that this may be a good option.

I'm glad the doctor got whatever it was out of her ear and she's hearing better now too.

Well, the doctor didn't get it out, but did give us something for it. It is definitely better. I will be taking her back to check up on it.

@dodo19 I'm surprised he didn't take it out of there unless the drops need to loosen it so it can be gotten out easier.

Like @amadeo said, they recommend not to use qtips in ears. And this is one of the reasons. Which had happened to me just a few months ago. As the very top layer of the qtip stayed in my ear and made the wax built up so much that i was in alot of pain and had trouble hearing. Thankfully, the dr was able to get ir out by draining my ear, and it didnt do any damage like it couldve - by making a hole. But i will say, I've been using qtips for most of my 26 years, and this is the only time I've ever had a problem. Thankfully. But ever since this happened, ive only used them maybe 3 times. And scared to use them at all.

@amadeo I try not to go deep. I try to just to do surface. Not too sure how it happened.

@amadeo oh I never go deep. But that one layer of the swab still came off, and stayed in my ear for god knows how long. It was scary and very painful. I dont want to go through it again. I almost damaged my cousins hearing as a kid. Playing house and using one to clean her ear. Got her eardrum.. but she was fine.

The poor kid. Guess your holiday is not a smooth one with this going on. Best wishes to you and your family, especially to your kids' health.

It wasn't entirely smooth. It was pleasant for her. But sometimes these things happen unfortunately.

@dodo19 I still remember the years my kids were about a few years old or in the first few grades, gee, they always waited until the holidays (99% of the time) to have fevers and severe colds. We never had a true holiday/rest at all at the time.

@dodo19 That she is better is what counts! I remember taking my girls to the clinic a few times for ear infections. I am thankful I haven't had one for decades.

Same thing happened to my oldest son (3 sons and one daughter) . . he had to consult an ear doctor for irritable left ear and sudden poor hearing. Result - hardened earwax! blocked ear canal - - earwax removed . . . now he is fine.

I'm glad that it was fixed and it was something as simple as earwax and getting rid of it.

I'd ask lots of questions about what's going on. What kind of medicine did she receive? What's in the drops? What was the white "thing"?

I was explained what the medicine is, and it is supposed to do. The doctor could see wax and something else but wasn't 100% sure. I realize now that I should have done things a little differently. Asked a few more questions. I do have to go back in anyway, so I'll make a list.

The only thing that should be put in your ear is your elbow. That’s what my friend, a nurse, told me. Glad your daughter is improving. Never a dull moment with kids.

That's an interesting saying. I would definitely trust a nurse. I am glad she is slowly getting better too. And you are right. It is really interesting with kids. never a dull moment.

I had my ears syringed out before we were fitted with hearing aids. It is a much gentler process than it used to be thank goodness.
