Look what's outside my window

Just when I was wondering what to write about, look what turned up outside my window. It is a summer’s day here and 36°C (96°F) so it’s pretty hot outside. We’ve just taken the rubbish down to the gate on the road ready for collection tomorrow and there are small groups of kangaroos under the trees and on the green grass that we keep watered for our concerts. I hope you’re not tired of seeing photos of our roos but I still get a thrill to see them come in so close to the house. She actually put her paws on the bricks but then turned back to the water. She also dabbled her paws in the water so I guess she is quite hot. There are a lot of bees around the bird bath but the roo drank from the container at the base.

No, I would never get tired of seeing photos you take of the kangaroos. I never realized that they have such long feet until I saw this photo. I think that you should take up knitting some sun hats for the hot sunny days for them.

When they get really hot they lick their forearms. This cools them as the moisture evaporates.

It is nice to see the kangaroo outside your window. I could only see them in the zoo. It is winter here and quite cold. It is summer in your side and that's so nice

We see a lot here so we are very lucky. Yes, it's our summer now and it's getting quite hot.

The bucks rarely come so close to the house. They are much bigger than the does and have much more muscular shoulders. In this photo hopefully, you can see how 'he' has huge shoulders. He also has a damaged ear.

@JudyEv Have they not gotten used to humans yet and have lost their fear of us? I'm starting to see that here with our deer. They are getting more and more acclimated to people, and you see them all the time on the sides of roads, in people's yards, and even in our city parks. They are growing less and less afraid of us with each passing year it seems.

@moffittjc In some areas the roos have lost their fear of humans - on some golf courses, caravan parks and other parks. But the ones on our property are taking a long time to get used to us. They are much better now and will sit and watch us drive past but they hop away if we are on foot.

Later today I will fill the stock troughs then they won't need to come up to the house. I'm sure only the bravest and most thirsty risk such close proximity to the dreaded human race.

In the summer many of the smaller water points dry up and disappear. We have several water bowls around the place. They get filled when we water the grass.

I love your roo pictures. I was disappointed I didn't see any on my Ghan trip. It's only about 26c here in my part of the country. That's enough for me thank you.

26C sounds ideal. It's funny how sometimes you can go for miles and miles without seeing any wildlife. Do you see deer on the roads in NZ?

The bush was probably the Indian hawthorn. The roos like to eat it. They also eat roses.
