Every time one hears or reads about a terrorist act, a suicide bombing, or nations at war, peace loving people long for a world at peace. Is the best we can hope for, is some sort of peace of mind and what the Bible describes as the peace of God? Is world peace just an elusive dream? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Philippians 4:7 (King James Version) "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

World peace comes when the King of king reigns in the millennium. That is the only time I see world peace.

So, until that time we can have peace of mind with the peace of God to help us live in the unpeaceful world.

Let's hope that God will deal with those that want war and disturb the peace of those that don't want war.

@1hopefulman I think God sometimes allows a war to teach our minds.

World peace seems very elusive, especially with the leaders we have.

Something more is needed than the leaders humanity has produced. The Romans were able to maintain some sort of peace (Pax Romana) for about 200 years but then corruption got the better of them and since then no one has been able to unite the world and the world continues to be divided.

@DianneN We were not created with the ability to run the show. We can only act in the show. When we try to direct the show, it flops.

@nela13 God promises that one day there will be an abundance of peace on earth and we will live as genuine and loving brothers and sisters. Here is one of those promises. Psalm 37:11 (American Standard Version) "But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."
But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

@Shivram59 Yes, so we can personally be peaceful and be peacemakers and we will have to be patient and wait for God to act to create world peace. The Bible has many indications to show that this will happen soon.

Only God knows how long peace on earth will take. I'm thinking it maybe won't happen until He is happy with His children and, considering the awful state of the world, that's likely to be a long time

Yes, only God knows how to bring peace to the earth and when He will do it. In the days of Noah, the earth was full of violence and being ruined and he cleaned it up. Jesus said that it would be the same in the last days. Maybe something will happen soon?

@ThreeTeddies It looks like He might do that real soon. However, in Revelation He promises that a large crowd of people from all nations will survive.

The only way World Peace could happen if people would only open up their hearts and minds to the things of the Bible and understand no matter what, all Men are created equal and God created everyone the same. It is us mankind who want to see things differently.

Do you think everyone would want that? It seems to me that we should let God rule the world for a change. He can make sure there is peace and plenty of it.

I love the prophecy in Daniel 2 - it gives hope to all who want to listen:
Daniel 2:1-49—Read the Bible online or download free. The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures is published by Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Yes, many people would agree with that. If we are going to have world peace, there would need to be peaceful people, people that have peace on their minds and in their hearts. We do have some people like that but we also have a lot of people that are selfish and greedy and full of hatred. We need God to do a clean up. Remove the evil ones so that the good can flourish. The Bible shows that we are living at a time when God will soon do just that.
When the wicked spring as the grass, And when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; It is that they shall be destroyed for ever.

Yes, I also think that God is the missing link. Without him there will never be world peace even if world leaders will soon announce Peace and Security. If God is not the one in charge, it will be just another failure as all past failures. Remember that WWI was fought as the war to end all wars?

We had some relative peace and security during the existence of the the Roman Empire which was called the Pax Romana which lasted for about 200 years. Maybe the best time of peace we ever had. ( We created the League of Nations and the United Nation but both failed to bring World Peace. Some of us feel that only God can bring true peace and security to the world and that the events we see happening today show that it won't be too long now but we can't say when.

I believe that Messiah (Yeshua, or Jesus) will return and bring the peace that the world wants with Him. Of course, it won't be accepted: Scripture says He will rule with an iron rod, meaning that people aren't going to want peace. But then, lots of people don't want it now, either.

Yes! I long for the time that the "Prince of Peace" will rule the earth and bring peace to those that want it and "rest in peace" to those that don't want it.

Many think that! However, if Jesus asked us to pray for God's kingdom to come and for his will to be done as it is in heaven also upon the earth then it must come one day. That's what I'm praying and hoping for. If it is left up to us then it will never come.

So, we'll keep praying for that time to come soon. Thankfully, now we can deal with life having peace of mind and the peace of God!
