This is not a raucous rocker in any way, shape or form. “Isn’t Life Strange” is a classic example of progressive rock from progressive rock giants the Moody Blues. The song is often described as beautiful. “Isn’t life strange A turn of the page A door without light Unless with love, we write To throw it away To lose just a day The quicksand of time” Written by John Lodge, “Isn’t Life Strange” was inspired by a most unlikely source: Pachelbo’s “Cano in D.” Pachelbo was a German composer from the baroque era of the 1600s and this was his best known effort. The full track opens with a duet of flute and harmonicom (pump organ) and there is a choir like effect. Lodge and Justin Hayward share vocals. From the album “Seventh Sojourn,” the gentle “Isn’t Life Strange” rose to Billboard #29 and considered one of the Moody Blues finest.
