Mother's Embroidery, Reminds Me of Her

My mother gave me some pillow cases with her embroidery, things that remind me of her and her artistic talent in the craft. Shown above is one of her works; one of her favorite subjects, flowers. She adeptly do it directly on the cloth, with no pattern at all; it's just in her mind. Sometimes I often watch her do it, while we were talking of so many things, mostly about our family. I often admire her works and ran my fingers at the floral designs she made on or blankets, on pillow cases, and table mats. She even recycled white used clothes and sew it as throw pillow cases. This is one of her works, and I tried to copy it, do an embroidery in our white bed sheet, but I could not do it beautifully as she did it. I consider her works as treasure; am so glad she gave them to me. I don't know who got her other works; who among my siblings got it. But am proud she personally gave some to me before she departed in 2011. Whenever I misses her or when am so sad, I would embrace her works.

That is very clever to be able to do it off the cuff without following lines or whatever.

@acelawrites I didn't even notice the creases. That is very clever to embroider straight on to the material.

She used no pattern or drawing at all. She directly embroiders on the cloth. (I failed to iron first the pillow case; it has creases).

That truly is beautiful! I've embroidered and know how time consuming it can be, but well worth the effort.

Do you still do it? That's wonderful, though it could be so tiring to the eyes; I could not do it for a long time; always have to rest my eyes.

@acelawrites Not anymore. I did it when I was younger. Now there are other things I enjoy doing much more.

I have something my mother made for my son when he was a baby. Sadly, she can't do the type of needlework she used to.

Maybe she loves your baby so much. Needleworks strain the eyes.

Your Mom is good at it too; you can keep it too because it seems so very few people are doing hand embroidery.

Thank you. She loves to do crafts; and I understand her family came from a place where there are artists and poets.

My mother was also good at embroidery but she had a different style. I have also kept the things she embroidered and like looking at them.
