When I was in Jr.High school and my penmanship teacher inspired me very much. The class there learning cursive writing and Old fashioned . We use the school pen that was issued to us. I loved this class and looking forward every day. The inkwell ,pen ,etc. All through Jr.High.He gave me an A.This is what inspired me. Remember this was back in the forties.

I don't recall of having any particular teacher that inspired me a lot. I relied on me!

You had a penmanship teacher ? You must have nice writing . Though I don't think of one particular teacher as being an inspiration, many of them had inspirational moments. A moment I remember was a potential skating coach who told me (after a bad time with a previous coach) that she saw a beautiful skater within me that had not yet blossomed . . . I took those words to heart and boy it made my skating go that much further thereafter.

@amadeo I think teaching was much more than just a job when I was at school. Teachers seemed to care about their subject. These days, in the UK, teaching seems to have become the profession of last resort. Didn't do a degree in something useful?? No problem. Do some teacher training and become a teacher!!

We really loved our theater teacher. He was a vibrant man who inspired all of us in high school and took us through two very well done musicals that we did in our junior and senior years. We did Anything Goes and The Pajama Game and he really pushed us and it was terrific to see what we could do. I sure wish that it had been the time to get it all on video how I would have loved to see us all again.

In my freshman year of high school, I had a botany teacher that encouraged me and gave me "free rein" in some assignments to grow my way. I learned so much and even if I felt discouraged, he stood by me. Everyone loved him.

I had a lab teacher in college who inspired me with math. If it weren't for her help in the one on one math lab, I would have failed, instead, I ended the two years with a C for the course and mostly B's for grades. She worked with me until I understood all those ometries and algebra. It was necessary for my degree in Architecture.

Mrs. Levy in 6th grade--I was 11 just starting to deal with being gay--I don't remember what started the conversation but I will never forget her telling me to never stand down or run away from something I believed in nor to ever be ashamed of what I believed in. When I was 16 she saw a picture of me in the newspaper at was then a rare event--a gay 'sit-in'--somehow she got my phone number an called me to tell me how proud she was of me--I held on to that compliment for many years! :O)

I started school around1950, by the time I got to Junior High I was good at cursive writing. My mother was a teacher and had me writing at home before I needed it in school. Never did use a inkwell with a pen until I was in art school and used it to draw with...
