Talk about one of the strangest stories coming from Heyuan China when a potential robber named Deng asked a woman named Li to hand over the money that she withdrew from an automatic teller machine at an ICBC Bank which was $2,500 yuan which is the equal of $371 dollars in America. When Deng asked Li who are their surnames to show him the receipt of the transaction, he was shocked that she had no money left in her account. What happened next was that Deng decided to return the money that was going to steal from Li and walk away. Deng was detained by the Heyuan police later on. Deng explained to the police that he wanted to steal the money since he does not have a full time job. It is not clear if Deng will face time in prison since he returned the money from Li due to his compassion of her being broke.

I feel bad for Li for having to deal with Deng's threats but also thankful he did steal her money or harm her.

That's a bit of a mix-up. I wonder what will happen to Deng.

He will likely be let go since he did return the money to Li. She will not likely be pressing charges against him.

I haven't heard about this news. I think this man will still be put into the jail. Perhaps a short time. If I were the woman, I might not want to sue this poor man. After all, he has some conscience.

@Deepizzaguy This may be the suitable sentence.

He will be probably be punished for his act of stealing money and then giving it back out of the kindness of his heart by getting a short jail term.

I guess he was not really a robber but just a desperate man.

I agree with you on the desperate man story since a real criminal would not have felt sorry for stealing the money off of his victim.

It is one of those stories that you would see on the Twilight Zone.

I'm not sure if I should be happy with that news or what... He still attempted to rob because he has no job (lame excuse to rob someone), but then he returned the money after knowing that the victim has no money left in the bank. Mixed emotions. Thanks but no thanks. Okay but not okay.

It is kind of a bittersweet story.
