Mum packed her national dress

These next two backpackers are going to get two posts as there is a lot to say about them. They were two South Korean girls that my husband picked late one afternoon. They were hitch-hiking and he didn't really like picking them up as he was on his own. But it was nearly dark and they were nowhere near any houses, bus-stops or transport of any kind. They admitted they would never hitch-hike in Korea as it was too dangerous but here they were, hitching in a strange country! However they had missed their bus so I don't suppose they had too many options. A few days later they came out for a meal. Although it was one of the hottest days of the summer, one wore her national dress, a great voluminous affair complete with little hat and bag. When we asked why she had brought it all the way to Australia, she said her mother had packed it when she wasn't looking! There was ten years difference between the girls but they were good friends. Through them, we invited another six (8 all told) to a barbecue at a friend's place. They discovered the piano in the lounge and sang us some of their national songs. One was a song made famous by Sumi Jo, a Korean opera singer who is one of Vince's favourite singers. They were all such nice young people. Hopefully they are all safe and well somewhere. This appeared on Bubblews in the dim, dark ages.

I believe that I remember this from the dim dark ages of that other site. I love how her mother packed this elaborate outfit for her.

You would think it would have taken up a lot of room. I wonder if she ever got the chance to wear it anywhere else.

It soundes like you all had a wonderful time. What a wonderful experience for you and them. It was terrific of the young woman to wear her national dress for all to see. Plus the national songs must have been a thrill for you.

I remember the photo Judy, those two girls look so kind and happy. What an incredible coincidence she sang a song of a Korean composer that your husband loves.

They were really lovely ladies and you had some interesting moments with them. I liked her national dress and the thought of mom putting it without her notice brought some smile. No matter what might be your age, mom loves to baby you.

@arunima25 I just meant they are always concerned for their children even when those children are well and truly adult.

We are careful about who we pick up - and this was a few years ago. It isn't recommended.

We dont have hitchhiking here too but they are very fortunate that it was your hubby who picked them up. It is kinda risky to do such in a foreign land especially for girls

Vince made a very nice move to invite them along to your place; such a very hospitable gesture for tourists who even don't know where to go. And the girl's Mom made the right decision to include in the baggage her daughter's national costume. Such a nice experience for all of you, having them as guests.
