Puns, Jokes and Riddles

Travelling long distances can get tedious.....miles and miles and yet more miles of highway. The scenery can be absorbing....sometimes the traffic can be numbing Hubby and I enjoy the travel.....but...... When I sit and do nothing (sitting in the passenger seat) I tend to fall asleep. On our most recent journey we brought along a book. One that we've had for many years. It was a discard from a school library and somehow made it onto our bookshelf. The book was published in around 1960. Some of the jokes and puns are now irrelevant. Some of the riddles and puns are politically incorrect. That doesn't make them any less amusing. Over the next year this book will likely accompany us on several journeys. For your enjoyment I'll share some of the humour. Wendy: Mom, do you remember the plate you always worried I would break? Mom: Yes, what about it? Wendy: Your worries are over! Corny yes! It's also timeless.

Wendy already broke the plate. No worries!

I remember when my children were young...they fought over using a certain plate. One day, after repeated arguements between the children, I threw the plate to the floor and suggested they could each now have a piece of it!

I like some of those oldies also, they usually have one in our church bulletin, provided there is space. We usually wander down memory lane on long drives, and converse about fun times of the past. I love those talks.

we also reminisce but we seems to spent countless hours in the van. We rarely listen to the radio.

Bringing books and things you can enjoy when travelling is fun too especially when stuck on traffic.

After several hours on the road, I open up the book at random and choose a few puns or jokes to read. Sometimes we groan...other times we laugh out loud.

Nowadays you're more likely to find a traveler glued to their cellphone or tablet during journeys rather than reading a book.

I spend a lot of time looking at the scenery as well as helping with the navigation (I still like a good map). Often we are travelling on familiar routes so no map is needed. The jokes and riddles are a sing and sometimes even stimulating.

They say laughter is the best medicine. Even corny jokes have their place.

We are certainly getting a good laugh out of this book. I think it will accompany us on our long trip later this year.

They certainly do. This book is at least fifty years old so some jokes are not as relevant...but we still find them amusing,

Ha, Ha, love it. Yes some may now be irrelevant or not politically correct these days, but they are funny for some of us who are old enough to have been around when they were produced

That was my iopinion as well. They do need explanation for the grandkids....but it's now part of their inventory of knowledge.

I liked jokes that were politically incorrect, they are becoming annoying with the PC, where is going our freedom? Funny joke the one about the plate.

@Morleyhunt It is becoming ridiculous, you can say nothing anymore, people get offended for really little things.

I wish people would not be so quick to take offense. It's usually quite apparent if offence is intended.

It seems like it would keep you entertained even if the jokes are a little on the corny side.

We've been enjoying the jokes. The corny ones sometimes give us the biggest laugh.

You're so right. Some jokes really are timeless. It sounds like a good idea to take a book of jokes along.

It is a good idea having that book with you, it will help you to spend the time in highways.
