More and more we read or hear about the vegan diet. Some say it is the best and healthiest way to eat while others have their doubts. A vegan diet is different from a vegetarian diet in that in the vegan diet, no animal products are consumed including milk, cheese, eggs, honey, etc. Have you heard about it? Have you thought of trying it?

I don't eat meat, but I wouldn't want to try vegan.

I have been a vegetarian for 10 years and although I toy with the idea of going vegan, I would miss cheese too much I think--but I suspect my arteries would like me to forego the cheese

I love cheese too. However, I prefer good health and want to avoid sickness and disease as much as possible.

@kepweng Vegan diet only admits vegetables, nothing that comes from animals, cheese is made with milk that comes from animals.

It's a momentary mania, it is not healthy if you ask a serious doctor.

@1hopefulman You can read here, it's not only "my opinion". Consider that most vegetarian products are full of pesticides and chemicals, BIO is a word written on the label. There are so many scams about BIO products.
Those who avoid animal food products often do not get enough of this one essential but scarce micronutrient.

I could never do it. It is a lot of work to make sure you get all of the proper nutrients on a vegan diet if you are trying to do it correctly. I would miss cheeseburgers and bacon too much.

A lot of people will have a hard time with this diet. I really liked what all those doctors said. I have been doing it for a few days now. So far, I'm still alive.

@1hopefulman oh definitely, vegan diet is much healthier. We just need to figure out where to get those minerals and vitamins which we normally take from eating animal meat.

Our younger son’s wife is a vegan. She was tested and only lacked one important vitamin in her diet. She takes one supplement. Our son is a vegetarian only because he loves cheese so much. He won’t eat eggs, however.

@1hopefulman She's been a vegan for about 2 years. I think it was magnesium she lacked, but I'm not positive. She wants a new car, but she won't have leather seats in it, which makes a good, solid car almost impossible to find.

If you are going to try, first learn as much as possible as you have to know what to do so that you don't harm yourself.

@db20747 We have a myLotter that has been vegan for a few years. We can learn from her. I would recommend that if you try it to take a B12 supplement and to let your doctor know so that he can keep an eye on you. I don't want to lose a friend! Her name is Gaby Veganmaniac @AlwaysPositive
I became vegan in November 6 in 2012 This was the best decision that I ever made in my entire life I am very happy with my life because I know that no animals...

I have been a Mediterranean diet my whole life, jumping on every fad diet off and on, but always returning. I have attempted vegetarian but did not last. After a few months, my body was so weak for a burger. Believe me, when we drive past farms and I see those innocent cows, I think to myself "how could I?" I have not explanation. So, if I cannot last on the vegetarian, I know I could never be vegan. I guess I could be called a Flexitarian.

@Spontaneo I'm trying out different kind of vegan diet. It consists of nothing cooked. 1 cantaloupe, a few pounds of red grapes, lettuce, tomatoes, cukes, an anise head and a few bananas.

Veganism is simple. No consumption of any animal products. Thankfully, we all have a choice on how we will eat. I am only trying to find the best diet for me. What somebody else does is their choice!

@1hopefulman Oh yes, I wasn't doubting that they do get protein in - but I was wondering what the source is. Of course meat is a source of protein.... dairy, eggs, are also sources but if one is Vegan - then those would be out. I've heard that certain of beans can be protein, but I don't personally know of any other - than Quinoa
