Long Day & Results

Been at my doctor all morning. He was running late, of course. MRI results of my knees were the reason for the appointment. Six weeks today I had a fall and found out I sprained the MCL (inside knee) ligaments on both knees. Not just one one, but both knees.
After getting the results, I had the doctor interpret the big words for me to understand. Ha! Break it down for me doc, is what I told him. So he did. You will notice words in parentheses are words we can understand. Why don't they just say that instead of trying to use the big words. Guess that is why he went to medical school.
I wrote about this fall awhile back and have been dealing with it without complaining too much. Today I was given the technical results of the MRI:
Free-edge fraying of both menisci (ligaments) without disruption tear, left and right knee. Edema (steeling) around the MCL (inner knee ligament), compatible with sprain. Bony contusion (bruise) of the lateral femoral (thigh). Mild cartilage thinning, no high grade cartilage defect.
Meniscal fraying is a term given to an irregular edge of the meniscus (often of the thinner inner edge) without discrete tearing. In other words, he said I was a hairline away from torn ligaments and possible surgery. He called it a severe sprain.
Now you know what I know. This is a good thing, no tears were found inside my knees. Only pulled ligaments, bruising and swelling. He has advised physical therapy all along but I insist on doing my own exercises at home. So, continue with exercises, Aleve, Ice, Heat, Elevation and "babying" my knees he said. Therapy will be a must if not better in two weeks.
Good news, and a reminder it can always be worse. Now, I will catch up with you all as time permits. Hope you have had a great day!

I'm glad to hear that it wasn't worse. I've had a knee replaced; and I thought that's where you were going with your explanation. Thank goodness that wasn't the case.

@CarolDM I am sorry that you are still feeling pain from it every day, 6 weeks later. That is good to keep pushing forward though

That sounds really lucky that you only got the injury you did since you were so very close to being hurt much worse. Although it stinks you have had to go through this at all you are right it can always be worse. I hope it heals quickly so you won't have to go in and do the physical therapy.

It sounds like it was not as bad as it could have been! Keep up your regimen I guess. My mother just developed gout out of the blue and couldn't get her shoe on. her foot was red and swollen, but it has improved a bit every day. She is going to check with the doctor on it though.

Happy to hear that you're coming along and with some exercise, etc you'll be recovered. I still cringe when I think how you injured yourself.
