7-up Had A Drug In It

I was surprised to learn that from 1929 until 1948 the original formula had contained lithium citrate which is a mood stabilizing drug. It was originally called "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda" but abandoned this name when they changed to formula. It is thought that the "7" in the name came from the atomic mass of lithium. Interesting, huh? I thought Cola was the only one that had a drug in it.

@celtieagle This explains why, perhaps, my 7 Up swigging great aunt got married to a tailor’s dummy with no teeth. It was around 1948, not long after the war, that she divorced him and her hair regained its natural colour overnight.

I wasn't aware of this at all. I guess it shouldn't be so surprising though. Coca Cola was intended as a medicinal drink and not so much a refreshment. It makes sense that other companies would follow suit.

No wonder the taste of soft drinks feels odd.
