I have to give my respects to 20 year old Derrick Byrd who despite having second and third degree burns on his face, arms and back after he ran inside a burning building in Aberdeen Washington on Thursday. he insists that he would risk his life all over again to save his relatives. A fire broke out in the Byrd residence in the two story building. Derrick's sister Kayla managed to get out of the fire in the second story bedroom by catching Junior and Rory after Kayla tossed two of the three kids out of the window where her brother caught them. When Kayla fell down from the second story roof. Mercedes who Is eight years of age was scared to leave the bedroom where the fire happened. Derrick then ran into the house and ran up the stairs to get his niece out of the burning home safe and sound. Despite the loss of the Byrd home, Derrick is happy that no one died in he house fire. His bravery deserves an award from city officials. Fire and neighbors are assisting the Byrd family to get back on their feet soon. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. Bravery is doing what is right even if it means it will be your last act in life.

Derrick insists he is not a hero. Just taking care of his relatives. I like that.
