THE STRUGGLE OF BEING FIT

¨You are basically wasting your time and money going to the gym and doing exercise, you are fat, always been fat and will always be fat¨ I am guilty of making ¨diet goals¨as my new year´s resolution, year after year I have the same goal but was never accomplished. It´s either I start and then after a month or so I stop. I love food, who doesn´t? I love cooking and tasting different types of food, sweet is not my preference but I eat anything that is fried adn appetizing. Though I prefer vegetables than fruits. Being a half Asian-half Latina and growing up in Asia, losing weight has always been a struggle. Trying to achieve a certain body size just to fit in. But having too big of something is not curvy nor voluptuous to others, it is called ´´Fat´´. I´ve been called by many names, ¨Buba, big-ass, pig, fatty¨. Sometimes I take it as a joke and try to ignore anything they say about my weight. I´m not against exercising or diet, I know we need to keep ourselves healthy. I went to gym before, gone to swimming class, taekwando, jogging and now I´m trying cross-fit. A few years ago, I have to admit that sometimes people´s negative comments and close relatives laughing at me when I go to jog makes me give up the next day. But this time there is no stopping me to reach my goal! You see, just because you don´t get results today or tomorrow doesn´t mean you have to stop because it´s not working. You have to keep on going, even if it takes weeks or months or maybe years. I believe that this applies to other goals that we have in life not only when it comes to lossing weight. Most of us get discourage and frustrated that we don´t see results after working so hard. And worst we have people telling us that it is impossible what we hope to achieve. It´s a day by day fight trying to convince yourself and others that ¨YES YOU CAN¨ But hey! if you are struggling too just like me, just keep on going, don´t stop till you finally reach your goal. If you put your 50% today give your 55% tomorrow, if you give your 100% today give your 110% tomorrow. Now that´s the difference, I´m not stopping this time. I want to do this not for other people, but for myself. I know that there is a better version of me and I want to see it with my eyes. Remember, ¨You don´t have to be fit to exercise, but you have to exercise to be fit¨

My heart doctor gave me the best advice I have ever received in dieting. He says: It makes no difference what you eat or when. As a male, if you will restrict your intake, the number of calories you eat to 2000 per day, you will loose weight. It is funny, it is so simple, and yet, I followed that advice, I also picked up my activities. The result? In three months I lost 50 pounds.

Exercise becomes a part of your life with some conscious effort in the beginning. For me, I can not stay without exercising. And exercising is not only for weight management or having a great shape, it is for staying fit both mentally and physically. It definitely makes you feel good and happy.

You are right. Everyone has their own reason why we do exercise.

Great encouragement! Things will not get better by stopping, they will get better because we keep going.

It's true. We have to believe in ourselves even if others doubt us, even if they don't believe that we can.

@erinmiles When we're convinced we should view doubters as cheerleaders!

@erinmiles I have been struggling with my weight since I was young. I have been fat off and on most of my life. Diets did not help me. I came to live in Israel and joined Over Eaters Anonymous and one day someone said something That stuck with me. I started to cut back but I was still fat and then one summer like other summers I really did not want to eat much and just wanted to drink but it did not stop in the summer it went into winter and then into summer and winter and I started to lose weight. It is hard because one wants it right now but it takes time and patience. I do not eat in between meals and only eat two meals a day and drink more water and try and walk too. I also bought a bicycle stepper and use it underneath the computer. I do not want to be that fat person again. I would like to lose some more weight.
