A Rose Grows in August

Up early on a Saturday, the last Saturday of summer break, I let the dogs out for 2nd potties and noticed a flash of red among the rose bushes my wife planted in the fence corner. I was immediately moved to grab my camera and experiment with one of the new filters I received (bought for myself) for my birthday. The photo above was taken using a simple UV filter on the lens. There is another bud near this blossom and I hope to get photos of both in a day or two. I don't know enough about roses to know if a second round of blossoms is rare. This bush did bloom beautifully in the spring. I know many of my fellow myLotters know much more about roses and flowers in general than I do. Is this a rare and special event?

And a rose by any other name is still surrounded by thorns.

Many types bloom more than once. Some will bloom several times a year. That is a pretty red

I did not realize roses would bloom more than once a year. Thank you. I learned something new today.

I don't know much about roses, I wouldn't think so, but I will read what others write. Good pic.

Roses keep blooming and all what you need to do is prune them regularly.

Thanks for the advice. I'll pass it along. My wife likes to plant flowers but once they grow her followup needs work.

The blooms earlier in the spring were gorgeous and larger, but I'm happy to see new blooms this far into summer.

what a brilliant color. the small pink ones here had several, while the bigger white one had a couple. they seem to stop, though, when it started raining again.

I think it was the rain we finally received that encouraged this one to bloom.

I don't know much about roses (or anything else for that matter). I've seen some gorgeous pink wild ones around here.

Do they hold a wild rose roundup in your neck of the woods?
