Man-flu and mulberries

I think I must have man-flu. Have you heard of man-flu? It’s the name given to colds and flu that men catch. Many women think men make a lot of fuss about having a simple cold, whereas the men affected think their complaints about their condition is justified. I’ve had a dreadful cough and have spent the best part of three days in bed. Luckily I do feel a bit better today so hopefully, I’ll be back to reading notifications and posting discussions again. In other news, we’ve been asked to take photos in about ten days’ time at a dressage competition, so we’re looking forward to that. Dressage is a specialised equestrian discipline. The competition is being held by a group specialising in providing fun and tuition for those people with disabilities. Previously called Riding for the Disabled, it has recently changed its name to HorsePower. And finally, we have a small mulberry tree down near the big shed and yesterday we were able to have mulberries and ice-cream for dessert. They tasted as good as they looked.

We too have a couple of mulberry trees and do get mulberries but tiny in size.

I've never eaten mulberries. Are they sweet or slightly bitter? The photo shows blackberries, doesn't it?

The photo is our mulberries which I think has slightly smaller berries perhaps than blackberries. These are lovely and sweet but sometimes they can make you screw up your face.

Thanks for the kind words. Forgive me asking. I don't want to open up fresh wounds but have you lost Sid? I've been away quite a bit and it seems he's not mentioned now in your posts.

@RasmaSandra I'm so sorry to hear that. Sometimes animals do go off to die in their own sweet time and away from everything and everyone they know. And getting another cat would never be about 'replacement'. They are great companions. Again, I'm really sorry and I hope one day you find out what happened, just so you know.

I hope I'm on the mend now. We have a couple of things we need to attend over the next few weeks and it would be really good to be better by then.

Okay, I admit it. I do tend to whine a lot when I am in pain or discomfort. I really do not do well with pain. I do not know how that compares to other men though. I've known many who can and do handle a lot. But it seems you have learned by getting this cold -- man flu that it can be quite unpleasant. So maybe you won't judge us wimpy whiny men so harshly in the future. Glad to hear you are doing better.

There is the old joke about - if having a baby is anything like having man-flu, then it must be pretty bad.

@JudyEv Having watched my wife go through three pregnancies, and one delivery. I have nothing but admiration for every woman who has gone through the process. We had a very close friend who watched as my wife went into labor with our second child. It was a difficult one that lasted more than 14 hours ending with a C section. That lady stated she would never ever get pregnant as a result. Didn't help that another lady came into the hospital across the hall from us. The nurses were not very nice to her, Told her, you are only five months, you cannot be in labor. She delivered in the labor room about half an hour later causing all kinds of havoc in the maternity section. We never heard whether the birth was live or if it lived.

@JudyEv Sometimes you just have to wait until a virus works it's way out of the body. The mulberries look much like our blackberries.

I love mulberries, there are plenty of mulberry trees in this area, back in times they grew silk worms and they eat the leaves of mulberries.

@JudyEv In all the area here around, also across from the border in Italy, there were many silk companies. Now there are only a few, people buy fake cheap silk from China, but it's not at all the same thing for your skin.

I think the closest in taste I've had would be blackberries. I have to get a Working with Children card to take photos at the dressage day so that is now under way. It will be a bit different to taking photos of endurance horses. They'll all be a lot fatter I think!!

we had a mulberry tree in front of the firest house we owned. We thought it was beautiful, the first spring we were there we found out the previous owners had power washed the sidewalk. There were crushed mulberries everywhere red mess!
