39 found dead in back of truck in the UK

United States
October 23, 2019 12:55pm CST
Was just watching MSNBC when this came across. Apparently the driver was from Ireland (I can't remember if they said Northern, or just Ireland). The driver has been arrested and they are investigating it. Did he murder them all? Most likely not. It's likely that they were being smuggled in. Itt could be that they suffocated in the truck. Either way it's very said. Have you heard about this?

Yes, I have read they were all Chinese people. I see that Owl already updated you about what exactly happened.

Yes, I was glad for his clarification. The news had just broken when I posted this discussion and the anchors were just hypothesizing.

@LadyDuck Most of the US National Networks are covering Trump or the candidates for the majority of the day. They cut and cover tragic events like what happened in the UK, but to really learn more we have to go to the internet.

It is horrible. I honestly want to believe that the man was just trying to smuggle them into the country for better and safer living, and not because he had ill intent with them.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That scenario makes sense.

@CarolDM Unfortuantely these people were not seeking refuge. MSNBC seemed to allude to that. It seems that they were being trafficked. Atleast I think they mean illegally trafficking for slavery when they say "Trafficking"

I think that it has recently just been discovered, maybe within the past hour and a half. It is really sad. I will probably see what I can find out from UK news sources.

I know I saw a headline as I scrolled through FB earlier, but I didn't read it. Like sardines in a tight can - eek! I'm going to go back and read about it - yes, how sad to have suffered this way.

@much2say It really is, and the truck was one for refrigeration. They did not stand a chance.
