Your Last Job

I've often wondered what type of work our MyLotters do. My last job was as an Accounting Office Manager for a nursery supply company...not baby nurseries, plant nurseries. I made good money and I was only 3 miles from work. I was totally spoiled. I had to put up with a lot of "stuff"; but it was worth it. I retired on disability 9 years ago. Now I MyLot and belong to some panels and survey sites. I wish we all still had a place to write other than our own blogs; but they are disappearing fast. What was your last or current job? Are you retired? If you don't want to share, that's perfectly fine; and I respect that. Photo Credit: Love This Pic

I have nothing to hide! :-) I was a teacher for 40 years at secondary grammar schools in Germany. You were 'only' 3 miles from work. Ha! My first school was two minutes on foot from my house, the second ten minutes on foot. I retired ten years ago. -- If you want to know more, just ask.

Wow, you were really close to your schools! Did you, by any chance, teach English at the schools?

@LindaOHio I did indeed. I taught English (1st foreign language) and Russian (3rd foreign language after Latin) for twenty year. Then Russian was abolished because there weren't enough pupils any more who were interested in learning it. My headmaster decided to introduce Italian instead because our school has a partner school in Italy and the town has a twin city in Italy. I didn't study Italian at uni but taught it successsfully for twenty years, too. Language is language, the method is the same. And then, my Italian husband could help me if there were problems. I only taught the beginners in Italian. Another teacher had the older pupils.

@MALUSE I took Latin in high school. I should have taken French...or German! Interesting that Russian was offered where you worked. Thank you for the additional information!

@LindaOHio I used to complain that teaching interfered with my social life, even back then.

I was a home health aide for seniors. My hubby got a decent job, we moved across a mountain range and I guess I retired at that early point- no more scrubbing toilets for me since he had a decently paying position. I stayed home and gardened, wrote and managed a few fur people.

@LindaOHio Thanks. Every time I stepped through the senior's door, I stepped onto a stage. I walked into most anything and did what I could, even when the person thought I hadn't and made me pay emotionally.

Being a home health aide for seniors is a tough job. Not everyone can work with the geriatric group. Kudos for your empathy and dedication!

I am a substitute teacher and Mystery shopper. I quit full time teaching more than 10 years ago and started subbing. I love it. I enjoy the variety of tasks I do for mystery shopping.

@yoalldudes I prefer being less busy. No marking or planning to do evenings and weekends. I can call myself semi-retired. I can take a winter holiday by not booking any work for a week or two. Mystery shopping - I go into a business, make certain observations and fill out a report. Quite a variety of assignments, and I enjoy that.

I've done a lot of different things. My main current main job is as an enabler with a local council. I support a customer service advisor. Although I've not been keeping up with it recently, I'm also a freelance writer. Before I came to where I am now, I mostly worked with children. I desperately tried to get away from that! I've done other odd jobs like working in pubs and fast food places. It's going to be a few years before I retire unless some miracle happens soon!

@LindaOHio Married life is frustrating at the moment! Trying to change all the things that need changing but we're getting there Luckily, we have a state pension here (and I will have a local government pension, which is not bad). We're currently trying to sort out some finances, and work out how we can move elsewhere in the next 2 years.

My first job was in marine insurance in NYC after university then I went to Riga Latvia after 8 years of working. In Riga, I worked for a real estate company, the in the accounting department of a hotel, and then as an English language instructor and finally gave private English lessons at my home, I now just work at home online as a struggling writer,

My last one was an editor for a local newspaper (a year ago) @LindaOHio . The one before that though was as a farm hand at age 58. THAT was one heck of a tough job but at that age, I looked like a body builder.

I ne4ed a part time job that pays $20,000 a week too. Heck would settle for that amount per month. I was a teacher. For years I had a self-contained class, moved to teaching mainstream ESE students teaching Language Arts, then Ancient History.

@LindaOHio They are students with learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, and/or physically disabilities. My self contained class has students with the IQ under 60, my mainstream ESE class was a mix of leaning disabilities and emotional disabilities.

You know about me. Most of my jobs, since age 21, I`m the owner. However, I have also accounted for several estates and a part time ,paid caregiver for the family, Tony will be the last I take on, its a hard job, mentally and physically. I am currently building up a new business, Sunshine` homestead creations. I have worked for others but short term. I got tired of making money for others while they treated me like crap. I have absolutely no education. Dumb as dirt.

I worked last in pharmaceutical sales till the company was sold and then downsized and I was one of the many that were downsized. I now work in IT, sales, install and repair of computers, printers and networks. Often quite boring and not fun at all, but got to pay the bills some how.
