Do you take a mouthful of your drink, with food still in your mouth?

I know this is such a weird question! I've seen actors and actresses do this so many times when watching a movie or TV show and it has always made me curious. But I've also noticed people doing this while out at a cafe. It's not a big deal and I'm not freaking out about it or anything but it's not something I imagine to be a nice taste or pleasant texture in your mouth. Then again, I know some people dunk biscuits into their teas or coffees. But otherwise, it makes me wonder why can't people swallow the food first, then have a drink of whatever you have because wouldn't it be all weird, slushy, squishy, wet food in your mouth? Do you do this? Does it enhance your food or what?

I never drink while I eat. I drink before I eat and wait about a half hour to eat. I was told that it's the way to do it. It is now a habit.

@kanuck1 I've never heard of that one before but that's interesting to know! May I please know the reason? Has it to do with the digestive system?

@VivaLaDani13 They say that eating and drinking at the same time dilutes the digestive juices. I don't know how true it is but it does seem to make a bit of sense. I have been following that protocol for years and I'm never constipated. Like I said, I don't know how true it is.

@kanuck1 That's interesting! I agree, I can't confirm or deny that but I'm glad that it's something that works for you personally!

It's because the food may be very dry in the mouth and you need some liquid to get it down.

@VivaLaDani13 It's the only acceptable way I've seen someone repeatedly taking a huge sip with a mouthful of food in their mouth and it was POSITIVELY DISGUSTING

I finish my food first, then take a drink. But sometimes, the food you are chewing may be really dried out and hard to swallow, so in those instances it would behoove you to take a drink while you're still chewing. By the way, when I saw your title, I read "do you take a mouthful" and my mind immediately went down the gutter. I'm such a bad person, I'm going to hell for sure for having a dirty mind.

@moffittjc Thank you for that as a few people said the same thing, that some mouthfuls may be needed if food is dry. I didn't think about that. And yes! I promise that when I did the title, I thought "If Jeff reads this, he will have to say something dirty."

I usually finish my food first but sometimes have to have a drink to help it go down. If I'm just drinking water, it doesn't alter the flavour of the food. It doesn't make the food squishy in my mouth either.

Occasionally if the food is too hot or my mouth is dry. I try to remember to drink a glass of water prior to meals as it helps digestion. As you get older swallowing can be a big deal.

Depends. Surprisingly, taking a sip of water directly after taking a bite of a pastry (especially cookies) enhances the flavor for me. I rather dunk cookies in cold or regular temperature water, as opposed to milk. Yes, I know how weird that sounds. LOL

I do this. I can't speak for everyone, but I have a hard time swallowing my food. So the drink helps with that. I think that's the only reason I do it. It might have something to do with the food being too hot though, I don't really know. Never thought about it until now.

I sometimes find myself doing it if I've put too much in my mouth and want to make sure I've swallowed it all. For the most part, however, I take a bie, chew and swallow, hen take a sip of my drink if I need to. I guess there are some things that a drink would enhance the taste of...
