Today is my 20 years in my current job. And I am thankful I am still here.

A lot of people don't have regular job and I am thankful. Though it's not an ideal job for those who wanted a higher salary, I never knew I can stay this long. How long have you stayed in your job? What can be the reason for staying?

Soon you can have just go on trying or if you can have the chance too have your own business then do so. It is better to have your own than being an employes

@freelancermariagrace It will be good to be our own boss and I am looking for the internet to be an additional source. But too bad that it's only forums that i can try. The net is very slow in my area and unless I can have a better connection then that's the time that i can try other means in here.

That is a long time in a job! I've been at my current job for just over 2 years. I've had other jobs that I've done for longer but they were mostly freelance or part-time/agency things. This is the first time in a long time that I've stayed in the same paid job working for the same company. I'm not currently doing my usual job as we've had to take on different things. The main reason I've stayed so long is because I couldn't get anything else!

@chavezrmc Like you, I'm not always happy in my job but certainly grateful that I have it, especially in the current circumstances. There are always jobs going where I work (I work in civil service). I've had interviews for several different jobs but still stuck where I am. My own job is difficult to recruit because it's a niche job that doesn't pay well. I'm pretty sure other jobs are always available either because nobody wants them or because they keep trying to recruit their 'perfect' candidate instead of giving the job to someone they'd interviewed!

The need to provide for my family and life in general makes me stay in my job. And sometimes the grateful patients.

Yes that will always be the reason why we stayed in a job. It's for our family.

wow,.congratulations! I only spent the combined 1.5 years working for different companies. In other words, 6 months was my longest stay in a company. I have been self-employed since 2007.

I think I have no other choice but to stay. If I have my way then maybe I choose a different career but as I said no option in my area. Still thankful.

@Janet357 yeah our internet is very slow here that is why i can't get some jobs online. I can only be in forums where I don't need much speed on what I do in the net.

We should always be thankful for the thing or things that provides for us. I'm a licensed business owner, I don't do an 8-5 job

You are right, we should be thankful to have one. But you are also lucky having your own business and be your own boss. That is a rewarding career as well.

Well if I leave this job then I maybe in a higher level now. But working in government won't give you a position that goes up with time spent. It is always politics that gives you the chance to go up. Sad but it is how it was and will be in the future.

@chavezrmc That's why I didn't continue working in one of the local government agencies in my city. I had seen the worst cases and I can't work with such an environment. But I do like to serve the local people at that time.

That is a big achievement. Being a teacher is a noble profession. Aside from the fact that it is difficult to teach. But if it is in your heart then i am sure you enjoyed your wonderful 23 years of service.
