Passover means can't eat a lot of foods I usually eat

Passover starts today. This means no bread or baked treats I usually get unless they are those that are kosher for Passover. No legumes, corn, rice, millet, or other grains. No pasta either. Can't have anything that has vinegar in it as vinegar is made from grains. Also, pretty much everything has to be kosher for Passover. Even cheese. Hubby is strict that way so I have to respect that. Not sure what our menu will be for the Passover week.
Tonight is the first seder. We are going to have matzo ball soup with chicken, lamb shank, and tzimmes (stew of carrots, sweet potatoes and dried fruits). And lots of matzoh. Lots of cooking to do. I never made lamb shank or tzimmes before. Hopefully, they will come out good.

It's one of the major Jewish holidays. It "commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery".

That's quite a restricted diet. Good luck. You should have no trouble with the lamb shank and the tzimmes.

The tzimmes turned out pretty good. The lamb shank tasted good but didn't seem as soft as it should be. Didn't really go for me. Maybe today will be better.

Not everyone follows it to a tee. I guess it depends on how religious you are or how observant you are of what you can and cannot eat. My brother posted online a plate for passover dinner. It had red caviar and uni, among other things. Not sure if red caviar is kosher for passover. And uni is not kosher at all.

@lovebuglena I was gonna say . . . caviar and uni ? My Hubby's mom is Jewish, but wasn't a practicing one . . . but we try to incorporate Jewish because my kids are considered to be 1/4. I guess there are "modern" interpretations of tradition too.

@just4him So I had made two lamb shanks. The second one was better than the first one. More tender. Wonder why. They were both cooking at the same time.

Thank you. The tzimmes was pretty good. I liked the taste of the lamb shank but it wasn't as soft as it should be. At least the piece I tried to eat. Didn't really go for me. Maybe it will be better today.
