when do you use matches?

our gas range is old. it has 4 burners on top, 1 hot plate, then the oven and the tank of gas below. we use a match to light the gas stove when the burner is acting up. we use it also to light the candle at the altar and more candles during brownouts. when sis started baking again, she ordered 2 stove lighters online to light the oven safely. now one of the stove lighters isn't working anymore. i guess these are made to be disposable? i know matches can be fire hazards, but are cigarette and stove lighters recyclable? how do you compromise? by the way, a match is posporo in filipino/tagalog, while matchstick is palito.

We use it in lighting candles and when we burn the pile of leaves in the backyard - but this is no longer allowed.

@jobelbojel we tried to do that too before, until one day we realized that we could pull out the other knobs and transfer it to the broken one then put it back when we're done. i just don't know if it will work for your stove.

I use a kitchen lighter from 35 years and it still works, I do not think how it works, but my mom had the same, it was expensive but it was worth the prize. For the fireplace and the candles I have rechargeable lighters.

@hereandthere I show you, the black and silver is the one that produces sparkles (no flame) and does not need recharging. The orange one is a common one for the fireplace that produces a flame and it's rechargeable.

our gas range bought from my father's (+) retirement benefits ages ago, was still good, even until now. but we are no longer using the oven so my siblings opted to buy a 2-burner gas stove. it ignites automatically.

I use it to light the candles. I love sitting in the living room only lighted with candles when I am watching a movie. Very cozy for me.

@hereandthere Yes, I use scented candles. During the day I use the scent of orange or lemon candle and in the evening, the lavender-scented candle.

I don't smoke so one of the main uses of match sticks is out of contention. I use it regularly to light my Diya in my Pooja room that is in front of God.

My advice is to buy a new one. I'm sure you can afford to buy a new one, don't risk it.

ours would light up when we press a button and turn the knob. but when it won't light up immediately, we use the match.

Many of us use lighters here. Depending on how much they're used determined how long they last. Our are throwaways. Maybe they can be recharged but I've never checked into that and don't intend to. Our looks similar to Anna's. I'll see if we have one in the kitchen now.

@hereandthere Our stove is electric but a lot of the time it doesn't light so we might use a match to light it up. I used matches a lot to light candles. Have candles burning now funny enough!

Stove lighters are actually refillable with butane unless the flintstone tip is fully used up. I once tried refilling a stove lighter with butane gas but I ended up just throwing it away because it was difficult to refill it. Besides, I was afraid that there might be a leak after the refill which might cause a fiery accident.

I sometimes have to use a match to light the burners. We do not have a terribly old stove, but something is weird. But I can also use a toothpick .. . light that from another running burner .

I don't and never have used matches. I use one of those lighters that are long, used for lighting things while keeping a safe distance. I may like watching flames, doesn't mean I want to be burned by them.

Sometimes we also use matches because, there is always someone who misplaced the lighter whenever they are in the kitchen.. .. Everybody comes and cook whoever they want.. its headache

I can't remember the last time I used matches. I do use a lighter with a long wand to light candles and to start a fire in the fireplace.

We have gas fire-lighters too but they don't seem to last long. It's always good to have matches handy as well.
