My two elder kids just started knitting, and I have been finding simple and fun projects for them to keep them practice. I just saw a video tutorial about a knitted pumpkin. It's just using Garter stitch. I decided to teach them to knit an i-cord for the stem. I have just made one small pumpkin and it will be given to my youngest since he doesn't know how to knit yet, and my elder two will need to make theirs. Do you celebrate Halloween? photo credit: kaka135

That's so beautiful. I would love to know how to do a knitted pumpkin.

Thanks. This is a simple knitting project that is suitable for even beginners. Here's the video tutorial I followed, except I used i-cord to make the stem instead of the loom. You can search online how to knit i-cord.
Every fall, we seem to add a new autumn inspired project to our repertoire, and this year we are knitting pumpkins! This is a super easy and very satisfying ...

This is a cute little pumpkin. We do not celebrate Halloween.

Thanks. Do you celebrate All Saints' Day or All Soul's Day?

Oh wow, they've taken on a liking to knitting like you! This little pumpkin is so sweet. We normally do enjoy the Halloween festivities, but not this year. Instead we will only decorate indoors and do home Halloween things. My kids have already expressed that they would be just fine with a bag of their favorite candies.

It sounds fun to celebrate Halloween. I think many kids like it. We don't really celebrate Halloween here, but I always like to make something for and with my kids, just to introduce the festival. It's good that your kids understand the current situation and still fine with it. My kids don't really like knitting. I "forced" them to learn, it's part of our school work. They actually prefer to learn crocheting. They think crocheting is more fun, perhaps they have seen me making more fun things with crocheting. I learned that learning knitting first, then crocheting next is better for them, hence I taught them knit first. Perhaps after a few simple knitting projects, then I'll start teaching them crocheting.

@kaka135 Halloween is so much fun - I wish you and your family could experience it here. But yes, this year is just not normal. My kids are a little older now (15 and almost 11) - perhaps that is why they are more understanding of it . . . different from younger kids who really want to dress up and go trick or treating at night. However, my kids did say they would dress up - even if it's just in the house . Oh wow, I am impressed even with their interest to crochet! My mother did some crocheting but never knitted . . . I only learned basic beginnings of crocheting. Is knitting harder than crocheting (it seemed that way to me, but I don't really know). Your kids will know both . I do crocheting and knitting skills help with other areas of life (measuring, math, coordination) - good skills to have .

I taught them how to knit. I learned from watching the tutorials online, then I taught them. I think it's good for kids to learn knitting, they actually learn a lot from knitting.

That's very good, it's a shame in my country not to celebrate Halloween, but I really want to

We don't celebrate Halloween here too. It's just that I'd like to introduce some festivals to my kids, hence I just make something for them and with them.
