Update On My Surgery

I thought I would pop in and let everyone know how I survived oral surgery from Friday. It didn't start out the right foot as the person who was supposed to take me, backed out at the last minute. Because I had no one there, I could not be sedated. I had to rely on laughing gas and numbing injections. I was so afraid that I would feel pain during the procedure but I didn't. I did, however, feel the injections. They hurt and I've never had them hurt before. The dentist was so rough and most of the injections really hurt. After my mouth was numb and the laughing gas kicked it, I didn't feel anything else. Within an hour, all my top teeth and 3 on the bottom were pulled. I couldn't get over how fast it was. I did have a lot of stitches so I knew I would have pain once the numbness was gone. And boy did I! Friday night was one of the worst nights I have ever had. I hurt so bad I could have cried. Even the pain medication didn't help much. But, yesterday morning I started feeling better. I was able to eat some pudding and soup. I could not eat anything else. Last night I started hurting again and I found myself being a little short with Daisy and I never lose my patience with her. I feel okay this morning but my gums are too tender to eat anything other than pudding or soup. I forgot to mention that my denture plate is too big. I open my mouth and it falls down. I go back to my dentist tomorrow for any adjustments so I hope she can fix that. I looked in the mirror this morning and I have chipmunk cheeks. I guess the swelling will go down in time. Yes, I did look in the mirror yesterday and smiled for my brother. I also cried. I know he was doing the happy dance from heaven.

I'm sorry you're in so much pain from the procedure. I'm surprised you have dentures already. I'm not surprised it's too big considering your mouth is still healing. Daisy will forgive you.

Well I'm glad the procedure went well and you didn't feel anything other than the injections. I'm sure your swelling will go down in another day or 2 maybe try ice on your cheeks for awhile that might help with it also. I hope they can fix the plate for your dentures so it fits correctly.

Laughing gas, I wonder how will it be like? Will we be laughing as we inhaled it? In my country, we have injection to numb the gums and started the extraction.

Hope the pain goes away soon. They might not be able to do much with the plate for a few days yet since you have swelling. When that goes down it might fit better.

Been there, done that. It has been more than a decade when I underwent oral surgery under local anesthesia where two impacted wisdom teeth were surgically removed because it is causing chronic pain and swelling in the area. I took leave from work and it really swelled, I'm drooling and in extreme discomfort. Took antibiotics and pain meds that didn't help much too. I couldn't sleep well either. I remember eating a lot of cold foods and icecream at that time. But it gets better day by day, swelling subsides. I remembered in due time, I have to go back to my oral surgeon to have the stitches removed. Now you are done with the hardest part and I hope everything goes well for your denture fittings.

That sounded ever so upsetting and scary. It is awful you must go back to your dentist again. Hopefully the swelled checks will go down. A couple of years ago I needed five fillings. I was so scared and didn't know how I was going to get those down. The dentist gave me a calming medicine into my nose which made me feel detached and in a blissful state. I tend to get plaque on my teeth. I was awake for the dentist to clean this all off. It was so painful.

You are showing your inner strength so much. That was quite the procedure to have, and you did it! I hope that you see an improvement in the swelling today, and that it comes down so that when you see your dentist tomorrow your mouth is closer to its normal size. Can you drink ice chilled drinks at all to help with the swelling?
