Yesterday was my wife’s father 1st death anniversary. My wife prepared zoom meeting with all her fathers brothers and sisters here and abroad. I didn’t realize that she has been contacting a lot of people to organize this gathering for her father. She has been in constant contact with her two brothers that help prepare the slides and script while my wife did organized the time when to start since some are in the US we have to adjust our time. She was anticipating it would take an hour for prayers and chitchat afterwards but it took almost a couple of hours without really noticing the time. It became a mini reunion for her father’s siblings seeing each other. We started saying hello to one another then a short video presentation then a short prayer for him. After that sharing of stories which consumed the whole meeting. It was quite heartwarming to hear stories about my father in law from the point of view of siblings and friends. My wife got emotional from hearing their stories. We started 9pm and ended past 11pm as all participants shared their stories about him. It went well in the end and all were thankful to my wife for organizing such in honor of his father.

Yeah the coordination was really hard since we had a different time zones with the rest so we have to adjust our time to suit theirs. Another concern we had since many are not familiar with Zoom App we might have a hard time contacting them to use the app to connect with everyone. But all of those went smoothly and everyone was able to share their stories with the group. I think that meeting was successful.

It was the indeed. Last year everything went so fast that they weren’t able to get to know each other well but the event made it felt closer.

True this would have been a very difficult task to do when technology wasn’t available yet. But because of it we were able to connect every one in a single app. Good thing also internet cooperated too.

I guess he was able to escape the pandemic we are now experiencing. It happened November last year when the virus was still spreading in China.

I doubt I'd be doing the same thing. I hope my dad comes home before he really gets into his permanent sleep. Your wife and her brothers probably miss him so much.

It was heartwarming that everybody we've invited came and shared their stories with the rest of us here in the Philippines. Last year the family was not whole because of distance and not everyone were able to go to US to attend. This time we were all just home and got connected. It took us coupleof hours before we all say goodbyes with one another.

Well most of our invitees were friends of my father in law. They were grateful that my wife(her daughter) made the initiative to do this with the help of her two brothers.

I am sorry for your loss. I am sure he's proud of what you managed to accomplish. The first year is always the hardest. At least the internet makes the world seem so much smaller.

We were a bit worried since most of them were seniors already and it would be hard to guide them how to use zoom app. But we’re glad some had managed to with the help of their sons or daughters with them. It went smoothly we also were worried that our internet signal would act up on us since we were just hit with typhoon and net signal were unstable but it cooperated well with us.
