Funny: 'Do you like chickens?'

Last night, I am having a class with an 8-year-old boy. We were talking about farm animals. I was asking him to describe each of them. The class was running swimmingly. All of a sudden, he asked me if I like chickens. I jokingly said, "I like to eat them.' He reacted like I am a monster. He seems so terrified so I explained to him that chickens can be cooked and be eaten. As if he is not eating them. Then, I asked him a simple question: 'Do you like eating fried chicken in KFC?' He said yes and the case dismissed between me and him about eating them. Are you good at leveling yourself to young learners' minds? Image Credit: static.independent.co.uk

Really? I like the spicy ones in KFC. I am not fond of eating spicy food, but it can be done occasionally.

This boy seems a whiner. So I need to pacify him as fast I can. I don't want his mother to complain.

@cherigucchi You said it right. I have this young boy student who keeps on booking my classes online. Not only that, he keeps on failing me. If I can only flick my fingers to him, I will do it.

@LadyDuck In my city, they are not that pricey. I just cannot eat it because the meat is too firm. Perhaps it depends on how it was being cooked.

@Shavkat I am sure that those we buy in the supermarkets are not at all native... they would cost a fortune.

That's too funny. It IS funny sometimes how kids don't associate what they are eating with the animals it comes from.

I agree. It is a good thing that he did not ask how it will be slaughtered.

Oh, my! He had never thought about what he was eating and comparing it to the animals he knew. Yes, most of the time I can explain about things in such a way that kids (of whatever age) understand me. I have to do that all the time at Walmart.

If I am having a class offline, it will be easier to teach a slow learner kid. I can just bring him to a shop to visualize the real chicken being sold and cooked. Whenever I am encountering this kind of student, my nose is bleeding.

@DaddyEvil Well, he is a slow learner kid. He is still grasping the usage of the language. I am sure he will be a good student with my teaching ability.

@Shavkat Hmmm... is that kid a slow learner? I just took his not knowing as him not putting things together in his mind yet. Sometimes, people don't really think about things until someone else points them out. You're lucky it is just your nose bleeding and not your brains running out your ears!

I love fried chicken. I am pretty good at keeping young children's minds at ease explaining the facts of life to them.

If craziness will strike, I might explain to him how to butcher it. But then, I am not a cruel virtual teacher for him. I'm glad that he understood about it.

Isn't it strange that some kids don't know that at that age? It all depends on what they are taught. I love Fried chicken! I had a craving a few weeks ago and we ate fried chicken for a few days. lol

I agree. I must admit that this student is a slow learner in learning the English language. Perhaps the parents are not that good with the language, too. I will join you with this chicken craving. I think I need to have it soon.

When children weigh something in their mind, they often get a wrong perception. Of course you love eating chicken, most of us do:)

I agree. Some children need to receive informative ones to get the main idea. It comes into details. I also love munching fried chickens.

@Shavkat My daughter(maybe 7 at that time) asked me, 'Mom, what does a cob look like?' I thought she meant from corn. 'No Mom, those bugs that make webs!' She was referring to 'COB-WEBS!' She wanted to know what a cob looks like!

I t will be fun if they want to learn new things. If they are rude, then that's another story. I also want to pet wild chickens. But it will be difficult to catch them though.

I humbly going to say that virtual teachers need to be alert in this kind of situation. Sometimes it is overwhelming if the students are asking word per word. It will be a nosebleeding moment.
