Someone's Mowing

United States

I think it was snowy that wrote a discussion sometime this week about a radio station saying "It's a great day to mow the lawn." Well, I guess one of my neighbors thinks today is as good a day as any to mow. I can't actually see which neighbor is mowing, but I think it's one of them to the right of me. Our grass is the golden yellowish color it gets when it's dried out. It's around forty degrees farenheit out there.

@RebeccasFarm I am aggravated when the man we hire to mow our lawn comes at 7 in the morning. He mows three lawns on our road and I think it's far too early for him to come and mow.

Probably so. I can't say as I blame them, but it's silly to mow so late.

@hillhjill That's silly but I guess he has a lot of pride for it or maybe he just wants to see it at it's prettiest before he gets it to it's muddiest.

It was me, and I think that is nuts. You could have a foot of snow in two weeks!

Exactly! People should really be waiting until March to start the lawn care again.

Our grass is the same color as yours, and I don't think there is nothing for us to mow. It's still cold out - maybe he needs to stretch his legs or is done being cooped inside.

That's a possibility. At first I wasn't sure what it was, but after a few minutes I realized it was the distant sound of a lawn mower. There are still limbs at the end of his driveway where the city has not yet collected them.

What can be done if the grass is still at ankle level. When I hear someone mowing then the sound pierced my ears.

My neighbour hardly mow his land. He keep building something though. I thought he's renovating his house, but this project has been on-going before the pandemic.

@ScribbledAdNauseum not much grass around. Maybe due to the vehicle going around.

So his grass is very tall? My friend has a neighbor who builds his houses himself. They live on a rural and private road and the man has three houses he's built himself on this road. He's building another and had been for about five years.

@prinzcy Ah yes, that will make the grass die and can even make the area muddy.

@scribbledadnauseum Every day is a great day NOT to mow the lawn but my neighbours don't agree. From March through to October they're at it every day, or at least their gardener is now that they are too old. Every leaf that falls has to be blown away immediately by a whiny leaf blower, the hedges get trimmed every week and the lawn never gets the chance to grow. From November to February the gardener only gets to use his gardening power tools once a week. It's all so infuriating. Summer is made just so unpleasant by their constant whirring worry about the garden and it's horrible for us to sit in our own garden.

There's always someone getting out the mower as soon as it stops raining (the grass would be wet), etc. or as soon as the first day of spring hits.

Right, not sure I can understand those who mow as soon as it stops raining. We always waited an extra day when we were mowing the lawn ourselves. I say we like I've ever operated a lawn mower. I mean my family.
