I want something that will gorw into a hedge within a couple of years but not look too messy or sparse. it should be evergreen to keep privacy in winter. Please note I'm in UK so some plant I can't get or won't grow here. Your advice would be great!

That looks like the trees we call connifer. They work quite well, but take a lot from the soil and grow too big. I think I need a climbing plant that grows quick and is evergreen

Privet is the obvious choice, though not everyone likes it as a plant. It certainly makes a quick strong hedge without any fuss.

thanks for your suggestion. last time I planted privet it took ages to 'settle in' and grew very slowly. I'm looking for something that will grow much faster.

Holly grows quickly into a hedge and is evergreen too and has red berries at christmas time. I think it grows in the UK too if I am not mistaken.
