Baby Chicks Are 1 Week Old Now

The six baby chicks that made it through hatching are now one week old give or take a day. They are 4-5 x as big now as they grow like weeks. I have moved them to a larger plastic storage bin to give them more room to exercise, play and move around in. They are feathering out now and there are no two exactly the same. I could give them all names, but I would never remember who is who. It is looking like I have at least two roosters and possibly (probably) more. I possibly have a home for one of them at my oldest daughter's house or street. They live in a rural area and they all have chickens free roaming there. They are so cute, you could give them a name when they are a little bigger, may be according to their color or a splash of color.

I could but I would never remember which one is which. I would definitely have to write it all down. I would be calling them all by wrong names. I want to go ahead and set the incubator back up for another run soon.

@LadyDuck Same here and with 20+ or - over the last few years, it is hard to remember who is who! I have the roosters down pat since there are only two of them. There are a couple of hens that have names that have stuck but they are easily identified or only one of that breed.

@kareng I tried to give names to the ducklings of my grandmother, but they all looked the same. I finally gave up.

hmm, perhaps I should trade in our two (troublesome) cats here for hens in the future...

@wolfgirl569 I may end up moving these guys! But then again, they do remind me when their bowl is empty!

So cute! Unfortunately they won't stay like that. But it's a good thing. Can't imagine slaughtering something so cute and tiny.

Right, they just about double in size every day!! I know. I would rather take care of them for like after they stop laying.

I can see the feathers. Why do you have to give them away?

You only want one rooster per coop. I have two chicken coops and two roosters already. If you put another one it the two roosters would be aggressive toward each other and fight. We will see how many we end up with. The way my luck goes, it will be something like a repeat of the first batch of babies I bought. I bought 8 chicks and got 5 rootsers.

Yes! It is. I will probably take a break before running another batch of eggs in the incubator.

The fuzziness is disappearing now and feathers are coming in. There is nothing as cute as the little fuzzy creatures!

The coloring of them is something that fasinated me with breeding parrots. These guys are basically a barnyard mix. I will be able to tell who the mother is of a couple of them though. Both roosters are Rhode Island Reds.
