Worry--an old friend of mine

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:26-27 Worry and anxiety are things I've lived with often in my life--OCD and anxiety disorders don't help in this matter either. To what avail has this helped or accomplished anything? Sadly, it's just time wasted and time is harsh moving swiftly forward without a regret or regard to us. Corrie Ten Boom said that worry is a cycle of inefficient thoughts whirling around a center of fear. This quote is very accurate in it's depiction of explaining imaginary distress. I personally have come to the conclusion that worry is the brain's way of trying to control situations in our minds and the feelings of being in control eases our thoughts (I don't have it all figured out yet). It's has been a journey for me to trust God and give him my fears, but everyday it's getting easier, and the results are amazing. He is there, and He wants us to depend on His strength and not our own. Picture is from Pixabay--I added the words.

I agree. Worry is a time stealer. Focus on Jesus and let Him take care of everything in your life.

I don't have OCD but I can relate to the worry component. I am not extremely anxious, but more than I would like.

It can take up quite a bit of time that's for sure.

@RebeccasFarm I'm sorry that you aren't having a good day. I hope it gets better for you, and tomorrow is the beginning of better days. Sorry, I reread this and it sounds sappy but I really do mean it.

I have always been a worrier, but I am getting better aging. I do not think that it was because of "inefficient thoughts" but because I knew my limits, I knew that I could not control everything and avoid problems.

@misunderstood_zombie I worry less now, anyway we cannot change the course of life because we worry.

I'm getting better also. it's such a big relief in life. Controlling things by worrying is just a theory of mine that's probably not accurate at all.

I agree. Worrying makes me sick and it surely doesn’t add an hour to my life.

I read somewhere recently that worry and stress can increase chances of cancer. I was really shocked, so it can actually take away hours of our lives.

@misunderstood_zombie Yes, I have read about that. So, we have to be happy and avoid thinking negative what might happen in our lives. That would mean, worry less and be happy.

Amen! I try not to worry, but at times, its hard not to! In a recent movie one of the characters said something that I oved concerning worrying! "Worrying is like riding a rocking horse, its something to do, but gets you nowhere".

This is so true, like running all day in the same spot without getting somewhere.

I did plant some lettuce and the birds came and ate all the seeds quickly. I can rejoice that the birds were fed.

I like the quote that we should give our fears at night because he's going to be up all night anyway.

That has been my life with anxiety and nerves except when I lived in Latvia my husband was always the voice of reason for me, Now I help myself with a lot of positive thinking and rely on the Lord to get me through the hardest days,

This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing this, really. I am a person who worries a lot too, for many things that are silly. There isn't a day I spend without worrying. It is like this shadow that always shows up when I am trying to enjoy the brightest moments of the day. But what you said about how our brain likes to keep everything in control, and starts to worry when it can't really control how your time will go, is such a good insight. I'd like to think of it that way too. I'm glad you are feeling better day by day. Hope you feel even better as days go by.

That is just a theory that I have--our brains try to help us out but sometimes they go haywire. I also hope you feel better with worry as time goes by. I know that Jesus is the great deliverer. God bless you.
