I have been working in this hotel for about two years and want to resign because of poor salary, just now I've got another job that pays very well, my problem now is how to explain to my boss the reason why I want to resign and I don"t want him to know that I have gotten another job, and if I tell him that I want to resign he must ask me why? so please how will I tell him so that we will not misunderstand our selfs

I think perhaps you could just tell him that you feel your salary is not enough and you are leaving to consider other options,

Tell him that you're considering a position that pays better. Give your boss the opportunity to offer you an increase in pay. If you say you need a better salary and he doesn't make an offer then look them in the eye and give your notice of resignation. You don't even have to say you have another job.

This reminds me of a situation that happened to me some years ago. I had a little job in the hospitality industry, which jobs are notoriously low paid. It wasn't rocket science but I like to do my best at whatever I'm being paid for, so the manager wanted to train me to be a manager. I really wanted to get the training but my kids were very young and I worked when my children could be looked after by my husband, so I didn't have a lot of flexibility. The owner started playing head games with me, giving training to another person while making me wash dishes and sweep floors. There is nothing wrong with those jobs, and I was happy to do the best I could, but in the context, I knew he was trying to arouse a competetive spirit in me, and go against my better judgement to 'get ahead'. It just so happened that about the same time I was waiting on the results of an interview for a job more suited to my background, so I just quietly went about my business and bided my time. When I got the job I approached my boss and told him I was submitting my resignation .He was shocked. I guess he thought messing with my head was a good idea. He wanted to know why. I merely said, thank you for providing employment, no hard feelings, I simply got a better offer. Always maintain your composure and never give away your dignity.

@joelonyema and that makes it harder - you feel you're being unfair to him - all the more reason to explain with kindness and dignity - perhaps even say how much you've appreciated working with him

I may sound crass and cold. But I don't give a damn if my boss knows I have another job. I have another job and his doesn't matter anymore. lol

@joelonyema lol. All I am saying is employers do not care about you. If they are done with you they are not going to care about what happens next. Why give them a courtesy or a concern they won't give you?

You don't have to give him any specifics. Just say you felt it was time for a change, or you needed to change jobs that gave you more options for advancing, etc. It sounds like you already took the job? Just be honest and tactful in case you may want to come back if not happy in new job.

You have another job, so why are you concerned how you tell you boss? If you are certainly hired at the new place...he can't do anything about it.

Just tell him you're looking for a new experience to add to your resume and hope that it will benefit your future career.

You could tell him..you got a better opportunity... If you don't want to disclose any the new offer...then you can say personal problems..

Then you just have to tell your boss upfront that you need a job with better salary.
