More about our new home

Photo from our previous place As most of my friends here would know, we recently moved from 18 acres to 300 (square metres!) We had good reasons for moving. The acreage was getting hard to maintain and, if something had happened to one or both of us, it would have been a nightmare for our sons to dispose of. All the signs around the move suggested we were doing the right thing. The house sold within three days; the new one was ready on time, blah, blah. However, I really miss having kangaroos sleeping around the house and I miss the myriad birds that would come to the birdbath. But I’m trying to focus on the positive; one of which is the community we’ve moved into. It’s a lifestyle village of free-standing homes whereby we own the land and the house. There is a clubhouse with a gym, heated swimming pool, small function centre, library, pool table and small movie theatre. But the great thing is the networking that goes on. The village has a FB page and we asked if anyone could recommend a mechanic close by. Now we have the names of some garages that will pick up and return your vehicle after servicing. One gives a discount to people from the village. Others have recommended solar panel companies; also window and blind suppliers and installers. Some offer free bits and pieces so it’s a friendly and supportive environment here. I just have to get used to the lack of space and the animals.

Sounds like a very nice place to live with everything so handy like the pool and library, Now if there was a supermarket at well then you would really be living well, But cannot have it all, It is sad that there cannot be any roos around I liked those photos you took of them,

At the moment, it seems a major exercise to go grocery shopping. It's not a very long drive but so many cars then finding a parking space, etc.

Just think of the feeling of freedom that comes with not having all that property to maintain. That is a big reason I want to get out of here..Not the major one but it is a factor. I hate dealing with the lawn when it is all hot and humid out.

We've had so much rain lately that, if we'd been 'home', we would have been worrying about the gravel road eroding away. And whether we had enough firewood for the winter. So really it's all good.

@snowy22315 So you plan to move to a gated Apartment Complex? This is a trend that is increasing in big Indian cities as well.

You'll adjust in no time I am sure. Moving isn't easy, but as you've said many times in your hearts, that's the right thing to do.

@judyev I suppose all moves of house, job, country etc involve compromise as well as advantage. You could always lament the lack of Roos on the FB page and see what happens.

@JudyEv I hope so..coincidentally, if we do indeed move to the new place, there is a huge construction project right in front of the place omg

@RebeccasFarm Thankfully, the noise doesn't penetrate the house much but to sit outside is not to pleasant sometimes.

You will adjust in time. Do you have to pay a fee for club house etc each month. That place sounds nice and you own the land and the house which is good.

There are what's called corporate fees which covers everything including having the front gardens tended to. If you want to have a big function at the clubhouse you don't pay extra. You just put your name down to book the room.

You did have a big and beautiful property, but the upkeep to anything large is so time consuming. I am happy that you are able to come and go more easily now, spending alot of time out at the endurance trips without having to return home to make any repairs or fixes to your home or out buildings. In time this place will feel more like home.

@JudyEv But you would have parks or walking trails inside the Housing complex? The Trees there can still attract birds if there are enough trees.
