My stupidity got me injured

A few weeks ago I suddenly decided to borrow my son’s jump rope and decided to make it my daily exercise. My daily progress was quite fast that i became so overwhelmed. Purchased a new rope because i was definitely sure that this habit would last. Got the right shoes, studied and practiced the right form but i still ended up getting injured! Stupid me. So what did i miss? I miss the part where all coaches said, beginners should take it slow to avoid injury. Beginners should only do it 2 to 3 times a week and it shouldn’t be more than 10 minutes. And do not jump on concrete. Use a jumping mat! It’s been 6 days since my last jump and my shin hasn’t fully recovered yet. I’ve already purchased a mat that has yet to be delivered. Until then, I shall not touch my rope.

when you start excercise again, dont do it explosively.. you will hurt yourself. take it slowly and step by step..

I am sorry you injured yourself. I remember we always jumped on concrete when I was young. Jumping rope was a very common game back in time. I would not dare to try now.

@LadyDuck that’s why i don’t run. Running isn’t really for me. But i am enjoying jump rope and there’s a way to really avoid the injury. It was just my fault coz i overdid it. I was just extremely enjoying it that i forgot I’m not that young anymore and i should take it slow.

Oh yes i used to do it when i was a kid and on concrete too. But it’s different when it’s different when you’ve aged and when it is use as an exercise. Jump rope as a game when i was a kid was merely jumping. But these days there are so many tricks and I’ve learned my very first one and learning more got me so excited that i jumped not only once but twice and every single day instead of just 3 times a week for beginners. I made sure though that i was following the right form so as not to injure myself but I miss the part where they tell you to take it slow at first. I just got so excited.

@toniganzon I have a rope downstairs in the basement, where I have also the recumbent bike, the weights and other exercise stuff. As I turned 70, I take it easy now. I walk one hour every day, I lift the weights because I like not to have flabby arms, I use the bike for a little time, but I avoid exercises that could hurt me.

Oh yes it has arrived last week. And i’m doing my rehab exercises. Might start to jump rope again this week or probably next week just to make sure i won’t cause more damage to my shin.

Thank you carol. I was negligent though. I missed the part where the coaches said to take it slow and never to over do it. My excitement got the best of me.

So sorry to hear that. Same thing happened to me few years ago. Thanks God that here in Indonesia, we have traditional massage that can give treatment to this kind of injured. You may believe it or not (because sometimes i just cant believe it) but it works like magic. The only thing they did just give a massage, then in a few days you can notice that it going better. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

When i was a kid it was fun but it’s so different now. When i was a kid there was no proper form, no proper jumping and it was solely for playing. But now, it’s just the best exercise with less impact if done right and with so many tricks that is so fun to do.

Yes be careful Toni. I am glad you like this exercise but for me it is too hard on my ankles at my age. I hope that your skin will heal now.

Jump rope is a less impact exercise actually but i didn’t take it slow. It’s not for everybody though.

Take it easy. I haven't been exercising lately. My cousin now wants me to do a Fitbit challenge with her.

I need one or two weeks more to heal from my shin splints then I’ll go back to jump rope. I’m doing exercises for my shins at the moment and i need to ice pack it four times a day.

Take it slow. I hate to hear that you injured yourself. The jumping mat is a good idea. Good luck.

I should really learn to take it slow and I swear i will when i get back to jumping again. I will only jump for 5 minutes and only three times a week this time.

I don’t have really any serious injury. The pain comes once in awhile and it’s tolerable. I’m just disappointed that i couldn’t jump coz i don’t want to do more harm.

Actually I find it too easy snd my progress was quite fast that’s why i overdid it which led to my injury. If i had taken it slow, I wouldn’t ‘have been injured.
